My Wheaten Marans eggs are hatching! The first ones I set, from my pretty girl, all three are pipped, woot! I collected another batch and set them to hatch in 10 days, I had no idea if they were fertile so I am super excited. I am gonna set them all for awhile I cant believe the old boy has been mating her, I had no idea.

Also a first--the SBEL hens' eggs are hatching (Olive egger chicks), they are ALWAYS black or blue chicks, these are all white!? What the heck is that about??!! Same mom and dad as always. So weird.

Yay for babies!! Keep us updated. You know where I am if you ever end up with two or three extras.

Is that some long forgotten recessive gene in the SBELs coming out?? Very strange.

It is so weird! Same parents, probably a hundred chicks between last spring and fall...all SBEL moms that are white with spots, and the blue roo, always black or blue solid OE chicks. AND then I have 8 hatching in this batch and the first two out are white, and there is no mistake the SBEL's are the only blue eggs I set this hatch. How does that happen lol? It's like that partridge silkie chick, I have hatched so many from those same slkies and never gotten a partridge ever. These guys are messing with me...

I may have some extra Marans chicks if these are all fertile, I will let you know, promise! If I could just get these boys pairing up wth the other Marans hens, sheesh. This has been a project. The Wheatens eggs are every bit as dark as the others, very nice. Just smaller, because she has not been laying long--6 weeks maybe.

I don't know about you, but I just went (for bedding for the laying boxes), and ended up with four Leghorns...

Haha! I say I KIND OF lost control because I only brought one home. Yes. A leghorn. Haha. But. I really lost control because I put in an order for 11 more!!!!! What was I thinking!?!

Yaay leghorns!!!

Silly, can you have roos? I'm thinking not..did you see my black frizzle? Boy, just started to crow. Put a collar on him today, didn't hear anything yet..will see in the morning!

I wish I could have a Roo.... He is a very handsome boy.... So I asked her on the older chicks, not sure what I would do with them if she decides she wants those since I'm not going out till April 6th, but she is thinking her 7 year Son who is the main chicken man of the house is wanting some chicks. I got pictures of the new run, fulling enclosed with brick on the one side the property fence, they put 2 bricks deep in the ground in concrete so nothing is digging in, and then they fully enclosed even the top with chain link fence. They are not wanting to lose any more girls. They have the 2 now, and she said she was thinking for sure she wants a Maran, because she loves my Chocolate Eggs that I texted her, because she's never seen them. My girl is 2 so they aren't really that dark anymore. But now she wants one, and then maybe 3-4 more.

This is why I bought like 5 bags of feed last month at Cal Ranch when it was on sale, so I WOULD NOT go in there this month, because I always, always have to bring home some babies. This year I must be good, I want some new Maran's, hoping for a Frizzle, I really need a new NN and all those I will just need to get from all of you, or at least hatching eggs. Now everyone send Broody vibes to my 3 Silkie Girls, and my Little Cochin Mix. Momma has plans for some chicks. Blahahaha!
