Utah!

I got the best surprise ever this morning! My sweet 80 yr old neighbor was super excited when I mentioned last week that I've been planning on hatching some little puff balls this spring. Knowing that her niece was coming to visit this week she called and asked her to bring some eggs. :D She lives on a farm in Montana where she has 20+ assorted hens, 2 BR roos and BO roo.

Rita (sweet neighbor) asked for 1/2 dozen eggs from her prettiest hens...1/2 dozen turned into 1 1/2 dozen! 4 BR, 7 EE/BR, 3 SLW/BO and 4 silky cross/BO.
I have a little Brinsea mini that only holds 7. Luckily my friend was here. She took 6 for her bator, I put 7 in mine, my best little 5 yr old helper dropped 2... that left 3... I decided to be brave and put them under my broody girl. She is happy as a clam! I swear she smiled at me when I swapped her wooden egg for the real thing! Keep your fingers crossed!

I am so curious to see what all the different cross babies look like!

Good to see you here again Karen! I just asked a few weeks ago, Where our Silly was? Glad all is well in the Cookie Season

I know, I've been gone for months. I miss you all... But my father in law has been really sick, so between work and then helping out extra at my mother inlaws I've been so busy. I feel bad for my girls too, I use to go out every day and hand feed them treats, (I get fresh fruit and vegs from my daughters charter school when the kids dump them, yes they are spoiled) now I just throw it over the balcony in the morning, or when I go out to change out water and food. Today I actually sat out there for about 20 minutes, and it was so funny, they flocked to me like I was the best thing since meal worms. With the longer day light now, I should have more time to go sit out and chicken watch. HeHe... Specially if I get some babies out there. I have to refrain, 1 more month.

But Cynthia, my sister for sure wants a Maran, so will you have a few for sale off your Easter Hatch, I'm leaving on the 6th, the day after Easter, or if I can find some Maran eggs to hatch between now and Friday to set. I need to get the incubator out. I'm going to try to get some mixed eggs or really anything to hatch out for her. EKKKK.... I'm so excited she called asking for me to get her some chicks. Its feeding my craziness of needing some babies....

But my question is, how do you transport them in the car, just like in a box like they do with the post office? Would you leave food and water in there with them, or just offer it when we stop, and yes, I will be stopping probably a lot, with a 4 year old and 7 year old in the car. HeHe.

Silly when I drive them to Idaho I just keep the box in the sun enough to heat it ,but check and make sure they are not panting---or use the floor heater and set the box down there. Then I offer them water and food when we stop, but if they eat and drink when we leave they are good a few hours for travel no problem.

This is why I bought like 5 bags of feed last month at Cal Ranch when it was on sale, so I WOULD NOT go in there this month, because I always, always have to bring home some babies. This year I must be good, I want some new Maran's, hoping for a Frizzle, I really need a new NN and all those I will just need to get from all of you, or at least hatching eggs. Now everyone send Broody vibes to my 3 Silkie Girls, and my Little Cochin Mix. Momma has plans for some chicks. Blahahaha!

I have a SG that is 2 and a half months old....interested in that..or a NN only?

This is one of my favorite annual events, too!

Silly, so sorry your FIL has been doing so poorly. You are a good woman for doing so much.

Lisa, how very exciting about your eggs!

Ace, I don't envy you when your wife finds out about the chicks, but I will say that DH wasn't exactly happy when he found out how many Icee eggs I'm setting. Starting tomorrow, all eggs are going straight to the fridge when they're collected.

Red---the more chicks you hatch, the more you can sell to pay for the bator! Aaaaand the more you have to choose from.. to decide which ones you want to keep hehe

See this is brilliant logic and the Dh should totally understand this. Just don't repeat the second part.

Karen...if you cant find enough eggs you know you can always raid my nesting boxes. I know i threw away at least 100 Silkie and Sizzle eggs the last two months, for three weeks straight i got 6 eggs each day from them. And i always have mixed breed eggs too.

OMG, I want a Sizzle... I'm coming to raid your house! I will even bring you a box of Samoas to do it. So my sister wants me to hatch. She really wants a Maran so if anyone has any they are selling around April 4-6th when I will be leaving to add to the ones I hatch that would be great, with my luck I would take her all Roosters. But so now the question is how many eggs do I want to put in the incubator. I'm thinking if I can get about 20 or so and at least 10 hatch that way they will have enough in there to huddle to stay warm on the drive to NM. And then what she doesn't keep I will bring home.

Guess I should go plug in the incubator. lol And start my egg hunt, I would like to set them by Friday. So that way they are at least a day or 2 old before we drive out. Thoughts on that.
