Utah!

So I let the girls out today for the first time this year out in the back yard. I think they all rolled in the grass for ever... They were sad that I kicked them all back in their run after 6 hours. The dogs needed to go outside. Guess I'm going to have to remember to let them out every morning for a few hours again.

So I'm worried about this stupid hatch. I've been so busy with stupid Girl Scout cookies that every time I get home they are at either 97 or 100. And its also the same way every morning when I wake up. I need them to stay at 99 in this stupid incubator. Its starting to really piss me off. At least its not under 97 or over 100. But its starting to really worry me. I've never had issues with this incubator. In the same location as the last hatches, and it regulated for almost a week before anything went in there. If they weren't chicks for my sister, I would be like oh well, if they don't hatch they don't hatch, but she bought eggs. Grrr... its pissing me off, and I'm stressed out about it. And to top it off I have 37 of them that were good at candling. That guys Hamburgs and Houdans, only had 2 of each fertile. So we just have to see if they hatch. Called and told him to let him know they were really low since he gave me 6 of each one.

Also I was reading through on the ducks. My really good friend has tons of runner duck eggs. They just threw some in an incubator for fun. I think they are all runner ducks, we use them for dog herding. I think when I get home from NM I might try hatching some just for fun. If I do, I can't keep them. They will either go back to the farm or someone on here can have them. HeHe. I just want to see a cute little duck for a few days. lol

Sambi, sounds like you hit the jackpot! Hmmm, I would bet they're mallards, too. Unless they have all different kinds of ducks?
Definitely all different kinds. I don't know a lot about duck breeds but there are some really gross long necked type. They're very skinny and brown and they creep me out but there's only two of them. There are really small to sorta big sized, and from white to white with black spots to tan to green and tan, they're all mixed up I'm sure. I can't wait to give it a go though and being a baker as well I was happy to have such great eggs for free. My only concern is the copious amounts of bread I feel like people are feeding them. The city provides feeders with what they said was an all flock feed.

hahaha your remark on the tall skinny ones made me chuckle. :)

Turnip, you have fluffballs! :)

Birdman, I don't think I could be without my chickens, either. If I had to give up the turkeys, okay, I might be capable of that. But not my chickens.

Sambi, I think those are runner ducks :) Hehe. They do look funky, but I think they're fun in their own way. It sounds like you could get some really fun ducklings from that flock, if you incubate any eggs.

Silly, what bator are you using? I had someone suggest to me to put rocks along the bottom to help soak up heat and stabilize the temperature. Hope that helps. I'm sorry, I know how frustrating temp fluctuations are!

Hey everyone, I am selling my huge dividable chick brooder if anyone is looking for one. Hubby is making me a better setup so I dont need it anymore. It's a total of 8ft long x 2ft wide. Asking 175. Pm me if interested :)

Update: Reduced to 150

Today is decidedly not such a good day for me. I had all of my beautiful garden plants outside to harden them off before planting. Well apparently it got down to freezing temps last night, despite the weather report. So my poor plants kicked the bucket.

What gives? :(
