Utah!

Three of my silikes. Two blues..or splash, and a black.

Three of my 4 NN's

That black one is big..came from a big blue egg.

My two marans that made it..I think have a splash and a blue.

One is taped for a crooked toe..comes off tomorrow. :)

These two sleepy heads are still trying to wake up from being assisted. A white and a
SG. They are eating and drinking, and wanting out of the glass..not yet!

Bummer! My daughter and I have been anxiously awaiting the hatching of some cream Legbars for the past 2 weeks. Got a message today that they had hatched but that, on accident, we were given the wrong price and they'd be double what we were originally quoted. Being new to chickens, I couldn't stomach putting too much out for a chick yet since we're just raising them for our personal colorful egg basket. Maybe next year if we decide we want to breed. Well, my daughter, in her disappointment, decided to browse KSL and see what was out there. She called a guy with CLB and Ameraucana mix chicks up in Preston. We ended up taking an impromptu trip this evening and came home with 2 more babies. One is an Ameraucana mix and the other is definitely a CLB mix. It has the crest but is big and black. Can't wait to see what they grow up to look like! :) They seem to be a bit lethargic though. Should I be worried? I gave them some boiled egg this evening for a boost.

IPick, are their bums clean? I had that problem once with a chick whose vent was blocked. I cleaned him off and after a generous amount of poo came out, he was doing great!

If pasty butt isn't the problem, it may be that they need vitamins or something. Cynthia and any other experts, want to chime in here and correct me?

Happy Easter!!!

Cynthia you chicks are SOO CUTE!

So I decided to try to feather sex all the babies here, and I was so surprised that at day 2/3 you can really tell a difference in their feathers. So here is to hoping that I did it right. Trying not to leave my sister with any Roosters. Of course I can't have them either, but I can get rid of them easier then her. So I have a bunch of babies running around with their left toes painted teal green. Its kind of hilarious...

No, they didn't have pasty butt at all. One did have very solid poo balls on the tips of all its nails that took awhile to loosen. I haven't had to give vitamins to mine yet. I always see people mentioning B12. Should I try that and can I get it at a place like Walmart? Should I treat them for coccidia? Where would I buy the meds for that?

If you have not started them on medicated feed yet, I would do so. A little bit of plain yogurt is also good for them. Do they have a lot of bloody or runny stools?

With vitamins, the Poly Visol for babies with NO iron is good. I put just a teeny bit in their water. If you are feeding them egg yolk, that is good, too. You can get the PVS at the grocery store in the vitamins section.

They are a bit more active this morning. Yay! One is yelling pretty loud and trying very hard to eat her own feet though they have food. Not like the normal baby peck or two, like nonstop.
