Utah!

These Houdans I got from McMurray are making me crazy. I want so bad to work with these, but so many have developed crossbeak or died. What the heck? I emailed McMurray...they are obviously really overly inbred it is so sad. I don't even know if I want to start with any birds from them after this. Out of 26 birds ordered, I sold 4 and kept 22 total.

I lost 9 the first couple weeks, 6 have gotten cross beak (plus two I sold), we had to put one down for really bad wry neck and I am left with 4 cross beaked and 8 that look ok so far. It is so sad! Lots and lots of work raising all of these and I just dunno what to do, whether I should just keep some as pets and not try and keep going with them, or whether it is a sign of how badly they need work. They sure are adorable....and beautiful! But the gene pool is pretty sad I think.

Can anyone help one of my girls has gone very lethargic and isn't eating but she is drinking she hasn't laid today and usually lays everyday she seems very weak and the other Hens are pecking her feathers out , what can I do?.

That's heart breaking. I have never had chicks from McMurray so I wouldn't have advice there but I can't believe they would breed birds like that in the first place. How could you feel good about doing that? Good luck, I've got two White Houdan x white polish due to hatch on Saturday and I can't wait.

hurray looks like I will be home this weekend. I will have a few older chicks Almost fully feathered gold cuckoo marans from a show breeder and some f2 olive eggers straight run. For any of you that want to breed these would be great because they are unrelated to anything you have.

Would you by chance be going through southern utah?

I thought it broke? I would love it but I am trying to save for a better one that'll hold more eggs. I think I want a cabinet incubator or something. :)

This the replacement for the one that got dropped

That is so frustrating! I'm so sorry!!!

pfrosty, I have seen an egg like that a time or too… I believe we deducted it was R.C. whom was to blame. His eggs are always a little bit different.

Lisa, don't know which way to suggest on the French Hens… a coin toss might be in order.

Red, hope your eggs work out for you. It is getting close is it not?

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

This morning I went out to check on the chickens before heading out to work. Look what I found in one of the nests: Do any of you have chickens that lay golden eggs? Or should I say neighbors secretly planting golden eggs in your nest boxes? ;)
Woohoo! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! I want a chicken that lays golden eggs! ;)
