Utah!

Have you tried DE (diatomaceous earth)? I love it and it kills the lice and mites. I use it on my chickens and rabbits and it's all natural. You just need to keep it from lungs and eyes. When the chickens aren't around I sprinkle it where the chickens take dirt baths. If I think one or more has a problem I will sprinkle it on their back with a salt shaker I purchased for just that reason. It has worked wonders for me.

Yes, I use DE, I put it in their dust baths and I sprinkle it in the main coop floor every week too. But I don't ever really see the Silkie's dust bath, I couldn't find any on my other birds, I looked for an hour last night, just on the Broody Silkie Momma that is sitting on eggs right now. so hmmm.....

How about shaking it onto them with a salt shaker? Being careful of the eyes of course.

Silly, I think it is common for broodies to get the bugs because they don't really take care of themselves while setting. It's nasty, but I have observed as much with my hens. I like throwing ash from our fireplace out there for them to roll in. I've not tried the Frontline route.

Gus, your poor hens, but I'm getting a great mental picture, haha!

And here it is...pretty scary for us here in Utah. Wonder how they will restrict this yr?

Oh it must not be too bad since we started up the worlds biggest computer spy center.

The NSA is expected to use an estimated 1.7 million gallons of water per day to cool its spy computers.

OMG, I can see my putting them in a paper bag and shaking them around, just like shake n bake. Blahahahaha..... Well cleaned out the dust baths, and threw all the dirt in them in a different spot in their area, and then filled it in with some new dirt and put a crap load of DE in there. So here is to hoping the rest of them don't get them. But I really didn't see any, and searched them pretty good. I just don't know what to do about my Broody, I don't want to upset her by doing anything while shes on those eggs. She just might have to wait, but I only saw a few. Not really bad.
