Ok, so these are not mine, but a neighbor's... they asked if anyone knows what sex these two were.... (1 mo old) I told her that the black one looked like it is a cockerel, but the red was a pullet.... think I told her right?

First, I'm a rookie. You might want to make the same post in the regular "What breed and sex is this" forum thread.

That being said It looks like the black one is a cockerel and I think a Black Cochin with those feathered feet. The pullet could be a cochin too with the feathered feet. Hope others will chime in.

Ha, I did that once, with the seven dust. Worked great. I use the spray now. A spritz on the bum, under the wings, behind the neck, and in front of the neck.

What spray? And can I eat the eggs after?

OMG I feel horrible. I took over Iluv 2 Silkies today, well one came back home since she is a Splash, but they had lice. I had no dang idea, and feel so horrible that I took them there with lice, and that my chickens have lice.

Worse chicken momma award goes to me. I had no dang idea. She told me to get Puppy Frontline, and put drops on them in a few spots. So I guess I will be off to the pet store tomorrow morning. I still can't believe my girls have lice.

In other news, I put 5 Serama or Frizzled Serama eggs under the broody, and she is happy as pie. Hopefully a few hatch out for her. Got them from a high school kid down the street that is doing chickens for a school project.

I am so sorry! Our hens had lice, we got this really nice stuff at IFA that after 1 day, there was no sign of any lice at all. We were planning on redusting them, but then the whole thing with the dog coming to visit and "play" with our hens happened, and then we got new chicks, so basically we can't redust them until after the chicks are older. I have been on the lookout for the lice though. Luckily after 3 and a half weeks, I'm still seeing nothing.

It was great to meet you bitsy:) I'm eggcited to see how your hatching goes. And I will be more then happy to take the chicks or help find home for them once you decide on the ones you would like to keep:) good luck!

I'm super excited! and as I told you, the kids were very VERY excited to see and hear your rooster lol! would not stop crowing... all...the...way...home... haha (not like it was that far anyways lol) it was adorable though. My oldest would start with it, and my littlest would end with 'dooo doo!'

They all wanted to help carrying the eggs.... I had to tell them no lol. We are all very excited to see how this new adventure goes!

It was a pleasure to finally meet you too! so far, I have met iluv, cynthia, RJ (and his DW), and now you :)

oh, and I love the mystery of seeing what these mixes will turn into! I realized something though... I'm going to have to build another run for the new ones that I keep. I am pretty sure I'm going to have my hands very full come end of July with new baby girl. Hoping that having a run next to the others will allow them to visit through the fence, and get used to each other ;)

(and yes, my OCD got the best of me, and so I swapped a couple eggs around lol!)

Agh don't tell me that! Now I can't go in there. Although I would like to throw in a word of caution - Sometimes they mislabel their breeds. I got my RIR hen because she was labeled as a Welsummer there. They don't always know what breeds they have

hah! We have a hen like that. Sold to us as a RIR. However, now that we are more knowledgeable, we know that is not right.

This is her at about 3 1/2 months old. When we first got her, she was a completely brown chick. All we know for sure is that she lays eggs, and looks like a chicken.

This is her today. Anyone have any ideas on her breed?
