Utah!

I'm super excited! and as I told you, the kids were very VERY excited to see and hear your rooster lol! would not stop crowing... all...the...way...home... haha (not like it was that far anyways lol) it was adorable though. My oldest would start with it, and my littlest would end with 'dooo doo!' :lau They all wanted to help carrying the eggs.... I had to tell them no lol. We are all very excited to see how this new adventure goes! It was a pleasure to finally meet you too! so far, I have met iluv, cynthia, RJ (and his DW), and now you :) oh, and I love the mystery of seeing what these mixes will turn into! I realized something though... I'm going to have to build another run for the new ones that I keep. I am pretty sure I'm going to have my hands very full come end of July with new baby girl. Hoping that having a run next to the others will allow them to visit through the fence, and get used to each other ;) (and yes, my OCD got the best of me, and so I swapped a couple eggs around lol!)
that is so cute haha. I'm glad the kids are having fun! I'm glad my rooster crowed for you guys when you were here. They will be really cute chicks. I can't wait to see how they do for you:)

with the water issues i am a big fan of rain barrels, they are good for your gardens and such and its possible to use the water for some animals if needed. i might even put one on my coop. salt lake county has some discount ones i think. good to see the state start to embrace rain barrels, i mean not long ago it was not even legal to collect rain... oh and i over seeded my lawn with some warm season grass seed because it takes less water and stays greener in the summer. i am also going to do clover as it too takes less water and actually fertilizes the lawn and is good for the bees and chickens love clover as a snack :)

EPIC FAIL---Setting eggs at 9 am this morning, not checking on them until tonight and finding the incubator at 111 degrees with red hot eggs roasting inside.

I am so bummed...these eggs were all my splash and blue marans eggs for 9 days and now both are trying to be broody and not laying.

Getting Marans eggs to hatch this year has been soooo hard, I finally have been getting fertile ones from my new rooster.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!

I bet I lost most, if not all those eggs. plus 20 shizzle eggs. Poo.

I had my three hatch, two blues and one black. Not many. I am also having troubles with hatching marans eggs. That's why I stopped before, why didn't I remember this? Well, I can get more for not much, but I don't think I will. I have the splash and blue outside, and, thinking if I post photos of those older ones, that maybe you can ~ possibly ~ tell the sex. They were hatched just before Easter. I thought the combs looked big today, then I went to the marans thread and saw a couple of month olds...they had huge combs. Mine aren't that big yet, but, maybe in a week?
Also had three OE baibes hatch. Two blacks, one with feathered legs and feet, and one blue. Wouldn't mind a black OE. I don't have a black hen out there right now.

Got to meet Dan tonight. What a nice guy. He's our new guy on here. Lives in Heber. He came and got my Barred Rock. So glad he got her, I can tell that she will be well taken care of. :)

Oh it must not be too bad since we started up the worlds biggest computer spy center.

The NSA is expected to use an estimated 1.7 million gallons of water per day to cool its spy computers.

I was going to say something similar.....

could put it in a paper bag with the chicken's head sticking out, and shake them around in it without having it get in their eyes/lungs.... right Cynthia ?

That gave me the best mental picture, hahahaha!

In Heber, brand new to BYC.

Welcome! Heber is a nice area.

Lisa, sorry about your eggs! Poo :(

Hello everyone! I am currently interviewing for a job in Salt Lake City and was wondering what advise you all would have for me. I may end up moving down very quickly with my DH, two DSes and two cats. Hopefully I can land somewhere where the landlord won't mind a coop.
