Yippee.... Just got home and went straight to momma Silkie. We have 3 cute little babies, and still have 1 egg that hasn't hatched. I will just leave her with it, crossing all fingers it still hatches. Today is officially 19. So come on baby. She is still in her nest with the 3 babies, and it looks like she hardly touched her food/water that I left for her, and only 1 large poop in there, so she has been good momma the last 2 days and just stayed on the nest with babies. I was so worried since it was going to be cold and raining. But they are totally fine. Its raining here, so I didn't look at them other then holding momma up to see if anymore hatched. I just left her with them. I so wanted to grab one and look at the tiny, but left them with mom.

Well I've had Silkies hatch in the incubator and with a momma Silkie at day 18-19. Earliest on a LF was day 20 for me. This is the first time with Serama chicks. I gave them to a Silkie hen. First one was out on day 16. I was totally shocked. We are on day 19 today, and 2 more hatched between Friday night and today, I wasn't home to check, and I still have one more egg to go. Hoping it hatches. All fingers crossed, but momma is still sitting on it, so she must know its going to hatch right...

But on Chick Size, they all seem to be the size they should be. So the smaller the egg the smaller they are, but they all seem normal to me. I don't really think they could hatch out any smaller or bigger, because they don't come out till the yolk sack is absorbed. So I don't think they would be on the small size.

But those Serama Chicks would have to be the smallest little things. But their eggs are smaller then my Silkies, so of course they will be smaller.

The largest chicks I've hatched, (like I did the work...), were day 20. So I don't know if that correlates. Worst hatch was shipped eggs, and they were super small chicks. I feel like the parent's feed quality probably has a lot to do with chick size.

Silly, congrats on the babies! I'm glad everything turned out while you were gone. I'd have died if I were you.

Today is day 20, and I just checked under my broody. We have one fluffy yellowish/blue/silver chick already, and one external pip! I can hardly control myself, it is so exciting! I knew she had one already, because she tried to gnaw my hand off when I peaked. The baby is fluffy dry, I wonder when the miracle happened today -- I checked around ten this morning, and none had external pips yet. Some of these fluffs just get down to business I guess. Ha ha Seriously guys, doing drugs cannot be better than this. Maybe I should run for office, and that would be my anti-drug agenda: get all drug users hooked on hatching eggs instead... ;)

Our current roo is an Austro, and this babe came from a brown egg. Possible mothers are GLW, BR, GSL. It has a straight comb, and is yellowish/silver/blue. Any guesses on the mother? I love me a good barnyard mix. :) *feeling like all is right in the world because I have eggs hatching*

I think we all know that feeling!!! Congrats! I'm not sure on which parent it would have come from. My guess would be the GLW because of all the colors. I'm not sure what the GLS abbreviation is for, though.

Thanks for catching that. I meant GSL, gold sex link. Ha ha Poor typing coordination.

Speaking of feed quality, is any body else feeding their birds Fermented Feed?
is amazing for bio-availability of nutrients.. Its hard with messy ducks but amazing with chickens
supposed to make bigger better eggs. I know it makes them healthy.
There is a MONSTER thread about it on this forum. Just curious how many; if any ppl are utilizing the information.

I mix my own chicken feed, and ferment it! My girls/guy love it, and my chicks who are four weeks old are huge for their age. I do a lot of fermenting for my family too, so doing the chicken feed was simple after all of that.
