Utah!

cal ranch in west jordan had a ton of older chicks that were feathering in. you know they are anxious to sell them. mostly the common egg layers like br, bo, leghorn, sexlink etc. the good thing is them being older you can be better sure of their sex.
. Thank you so much! I will look into it! I have a feeling I have at least one roo in my flock, and I can't have them where I live (at least I think so), so it would be nice to have an EE to keep the number between 7-9

Large swollen abdomen can be quite normal...absorbing nutrients still...is the umbilical area herniated (is stuff popping out when it chirps?) The faster that little area can get dried up the better... if it stays moist it is more elastic and things can go south. When it dries up the fat little abdomen has a better chance of staying closed up until things can absorb. Sometimes if it is starting to herniate, I will hold it a little closer to the heat lamp, laying belly up to help get it dried faster.

that is good to know ! I put it back in the incubator so it could have time without the other chicks causing it problems. It didn't look like any think was popping iut, it was just extremely large.

I'm kind of sad... it was pipping, and it had some blood on the shell and membrane. After a while (3 + hours of no progress, even though it was trying (hard to explain)but I did give it adequate at of time) It was having a tough time, so I helped it a bit (the membrane was getting super tough already) it finished getting out, and I had put it back inside of the incubator so it could dry off. After it got all the way out of the shell, I realized it has a really large/swollen adomen. It's actively chirping and trying to move now...but I worry that there is a good chance it may not make it.

I hope it pulls through.

Anyone down near Alpine that would have some free fertile hatching eggs? My brother's hen has gone broody and he is looking for some. I told him to look on KSL but thought I might ask here as well.
There is a guy in Orem with some pretty nice SLWs and he is selling eggs on KSL right now. I really like the SLWs I got from him. If you search for Wyandotte on the KSL classifieds you should find them.

You have a Marans roo? I would love to see him! I have three right now growing out. I hope I have at least one girl!
Here are the pics of my Marans. Maybe you were hoping for a pic of an adult roo instead of a cockerel? Here goes anyway.

This is the roo I got from Lisa. I'm not sure of the line, but the egg he came from is one of the three on the left in this pic.

Capt K'nuckles Lisa was kind enough to give me this guy. Where is he from Lisa?

And this is Flapjack (pullet) JPS Poultry Golden Cuckoo Marans

Is this kind of tail ok on a Marans?

And here is the rest of the Marans flock here at the sidEwing Farm. Guessing roo on the left. Anyone hazard a guess on the other three? I hope I have at least a few girls for Capt K'nuckles.

That roo was hatched from eggs from ladycats here on BYC.
