Utah!

I'm looking for some input. My current coop, which is in a large run is only 2.5 ft x 4 ft plus nesting boxes. The extension I'm in the process of building is 5 ft x 4 ft plus a few more nesting boxes. I was going to have the coops share a wall and then put a door between the two that can be opened and closed as needed. The addition has a trap door so that the chickens in that coop can have their own area underneath if needed for introductions, breeding certain birds or whatever. Does keeping that shared wall up sound like a good idea? The original coop was purchased used and is not as solidly constructed though, after this project (my first building project) I think I know what I can do to improve it. Would there be any benefit to taking that wall off completely and having it be one big open coop? I really no nothing about requirements here and with this being my first winter, I'm not sure what a typical Cache Valley winter is like.

That's my plan so far. The far right faces east and is up against a fence. I was going to put a window there but it wouldn't be much light. The left side on the existing coop has a small window and nesting boxes on the outside. My additional nesting boxes have to go on the back side of the new extension. There's also a big door on the backside of the existing coop. The side facing you here faces north. I already have the bottom framed and flirted and the room framed. Just trying to figure out my sides.

I am hoping someone will either want, or know someone who wants my Americauna cockerel, 12 weeks old. Darn city codes. Message me for more info and pictures. I'm hoping someone can give him a good home, he's VERY sweet.

I wish I could help. I'm not very good at building, even though I find it enjoyable. My husband is the builder around here.

Chicken geneticists, so I hatched some austrolorp/EE babies. I have the most beautiful cockerel growing out right now. The pullets will be olive eggers, am I right? If I kept this cockerel, what color eggs would his offspring lay with mothers as EE, brown egg layers, or white egg layers? Hope that question makes sense. Thabks!
