Utah!

Thanks! They are my little fang of misfits. :) I think they lay some pretty eggs, too. :)

Agreed!

Ace, nice brooder in the building a page or too back, NewMarch, cute coop and nice run, the birds will dry out, iPick nice eggs (colors) nice photograph of the birds, I think that is a GOOD one. Good to see Lisa posting with us, Sidewing, I like that style of building, not sure what it is… I see a lot of them in Montana. Cynthia, hope the coop sells, long live the new coop(s). Everyone else, hello and this thread really moved today.

Put a little conditioner on the rooster today and it smoothed right out, as you can see. The lighting is a little harsh, but the bird is sure looking better.

Best to all and your birds,

Edit: We have one of those little egg cookers, they work very well, if I cooked more I might be able to provide additional culinary tips, but I don't there is much of a chance of that happening.

The bearded birds on the right seem to be looking down on the non bearded gals..as if they don't want them to hang out on the cool side... lol

RJ that rooster is just amazing. Love how red and healthy his comb and wattles look compared to the stark black and white plumage. He is a handsome one. :love

After all this rain today my hair may need some of that "product" Karole got her hands on haha! What a day! I think, must have been well over an inch, maybe two...our metal fire bowl had 5 inches in it but it is tapered. Crazy! Much needed though, it was a nice gesture on Mother Nature's part to get everything green again. ( I do wish our Boat cover wouldn't have torn though, the weight was too much before we got the standing water bailed out. Should have put the props under it to keep it from bowing, my bad!)

Hope everybody's birds stay warm and dry tonight. I think mine have a tummy full of worms, happy campers!

that might be a simple fix with some rain gutters

lowes and home depot and such has them

nice looking coop and run
That was my first request. DH being the kind of guy he is (that cannot do a quick fix to save his life) has decided a short tunnel with a better door closure than is on there will be the solution....of course that will take 3x as long.

That is a great looking setup!
Thanks sideWing, I love it except I have struggled with the roost/poop board configuration. I have made him change it about 4 times.I love the fact that it is medium size, easy to get the eggs, has a pop door on either side. The dual pop door came in handy when I had to segregate them for so long to keep the rooster safe from the head hen when he was small.
I really like those gates into your run!
Thanks, it is a recycle from a canopy that got left up when we were out of town and a snow storm hit. The corner brackets became the gates to the run and my garden.....and the backdrop for my daughters wedding....I love reusing.

Good morning Utah! I wanted to mention that the other night when I went out to lock up, I closed down the windows in the coop for the first time since last May. When I picked a plum or two from the tree this morning, they were crisp. I've enough leaves down about the place, and they are 'wet' enough to have that fall hummus smell. I suspect we have a change going on. A frosting of new snow on the mountain confirmed my thoughts. Glad I worked on 'all' my project and was not like the grasshopper in that fable…

A great day to be alive and a privilege to view the birds as I dropped the pop doors this a.m. They seem to file out in some sort of order, most days. The cooler weather seems to have increased their alertness, they were out on the lower lawn, heads held high, scanning the area for either sights of sounds, they do so like to range during the day time. The little coop started out at fifty degrees this morning, about ten degrees warmer than out side. I do not like the thoughts of winterization. I suppose after this next week I will remove my fans for the season and start to button things up.

AND this is a most blessed day. The DW has finally been throughly infected with chickenosses. She has secretly enjoyed and, it would seem, coveted my birds… that she lined up and procured some lovely birds of her own. I love it when a plan comes together.

She purchased some Modern Game hens and a trio of OEGB Fawn's. There is no accounting for peoples taste in chickens, so I just don't even try to account for it. I think the fowl she likes odd things, long legs and little bodies, fuzzy heads etc. et al. However this is a great development, hmm, I might need a new coop for the additions and well, the possibilities just go on from there.

My dust bath tub had standing water in it, might take a spell to dry out, I think we got an inch and one half to two inches total for the storm. Good time to inspect ones drainage and other wet weather issues that need taken care of.

This little gal is a blue or a self blue pullet. A darling little Modern Game bird. I can't say much for the DW's pants… but the bird is just first rate. Sundance, how did the horse do at the Utah State Fair?

Best to all and you birds,

RJ

Aww! She's a cutie! :) I noticed I have some mud and puddles in my run. Do you think it's best to put some more sand down for the winter? Where's the best place in cache valley to get sand? So far I've just gotten it from Lowe's and enough could get pretty pricey.

Sand can be found I think at Logan Landscape and at Forester Products, perhaps other places as well. It will be bulk so you will need something to haul it. Forester is located about half way to Smithfield on the highway, west side of the road. Logan Landscape is on sixth north and between sixth and tenth west in Logan. If you have found low spots, that hold water, might be a good time to raise up the low spots, that is what an early fall rain storm is for.

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

Hello crew, I sometimes work out front in the trenches so to speak, and having a farming background I will sometimes speak regarding feeds and feeding. I don't know that I am so bad… as a civilian, but I soon bumped into Chris09 and he is a champ and the real deal with such things. Should you have a technical question regarding feeds and the birds use of that feed, he is the man to ask. I find him to be very good. I was looking through some of his older posts this a.m. in the rain and bumped into this thread, I would like to share it with the Utah group as a resource and basic learning tool. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=343605

Now on a more serious note, my poor OEGB SDW that cleaned up so oddly yesterday… we were able to save him. The DW, being I was fit to be tied, called her magician/beautician and was able to run to town and get us a bottle of potion/release stuff. She called it 'Product' but that does not ring a bell in my tower. Anyway we applied the 'Product' to the affected bird in the quantities called for on the table/spell and with a application of said 'product' and a short enchantion of some words I did not catch, nor understand. Anyway when said bird was removed from the caldron/wash tub and thusly dried again, his feathers returned to their former glory. I thought the DW would have to iron them back straight and I did not like the thoughts of that, poor bird. I want to thank those whom offered moral support and even offered to take the bird off my hands. I think I have answered the onslaught of PM's sent to me in the last twenty-four hours, thanks to everyone for the concern.

The before shot.

This afternoon, with his lady, (She was worried as well).

Anyway world peace has been restored along with a few frizzled feathers, thanks.

RJ
