Utah!

A question for my Utah friends that know much more about local laws than I: there is an AD on KSL for a couple of fighting rooster.  Isn't that illegal in Utah?  this is a link to the AD:

I want to barf right now.  poor beautiful animals made to fight for human "entertainment"
Whats up with this?

It isn't illegal to buy or sell these birds, you just can't fight them. You can even dub them(cut extra skin off their face) but once dubbed you can't legally transport them any more.

We have trio of cock fighting American games, but the rooster has never been dubbed and we never will fight them.

I have heard that Utah is a large state for the illegal cock fighting, but never would support it and would report any that I heard was going on.

They are truly beautiful birds, very good with predators, great mothers, and are very flighty. Mine would rather stay 3+ feet from me, and the only time one has shown aggression towards me was when she had chicks. Another plus is 6-7 eggs a week per hen, great layers.

@sideWing Just thought you might want to see the cute chick we got from your eggs. Thanks so much again for them! I wish more could have hatched, (5 were clear at day 10, and this last 1 in there is darker shelled so it's hard for me to see inside) but the kids at school were so excited to see this little one this morning when they got there. It was great!! (of course, nothing got done today...)

If anyone's looking for SLW I have some really nice ones coming in this week I would sell a couple of them if anyone's interested
Where did you get them from? I might be interested.

I'm sorry you didn't get more, but that's a cute little chick. Let me know if you would like to try again. I have a smaller flock now so fertility should be better.

Does anyone in Davis or Weber county have hatching eggs? I'm supposed to start a hatch today for a local school and my supplier fell through. I'd be happy to give the chicks back if you have valuable stock that you don't want to give up.

Message me the details, for example, how many you are looking for, where you are at, etc. I might be able to help you out. I'm in southern weber county and have a mixed flock of birds.

Just curious what everyone's luck has been with buying chicks from IFA - meaning how often have you gotten a cockerel when you've purchased pullets? I've got a SS that is looking pretty manly.

Greetings all…

Just placed and got confirmation today, on my major chick order for 2016. I am getting twenty-five of these little beauties, some of whom are just being laid as I type this. They will be set on the 28th of March and should ship on or around the 18th of April. The wait for them is killing me already. This is to be the basis of my Red Line of chickens… the thoughts of which make me want to just scream like a little girl. Or perhaps laugh like Bart Simpson. One or the other.

Tandy ~ My luck with IFA hens vs. roosters has been mostly good. But it does happen that one will slip through. I enquired concerning it once and was told that they shoot for a 80% or better in the sexing. Their pricing reflects this ratio. Many places still only offer straight run and or sex linked breeds.

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

RJ - Good to know. Looks like I'm hitting the 80% mark.

I got 10 birds and 2 look to be male. If anyone is interested, I will probably need to be rehoming a Speckled Sussex and possibly an Australorp. Not allowed to have Roosters :-/ Pretty sure at 5 weeks the below SS is male.

Oh Tandy I'm in the same water, just in a different boat. I got 7 chicks in January (5 silkies, 2 SLW) and I am 100% sure 3 are boys, and 2 more can be caught flipping their feet at eachother, I'm only sure that 2 are girls! That little SS is all boy, sorry to say!

I agree. Definitely looking male.
