I grew up in Utah and lived there for 50 years.  I went on a business trip to Massachusetts and after 2 weeks here I realized they'd legalized adulthood here and told myself I wasn't ever going home.  And I didn't.

hahaha i know it can be very frustrating. but i still love it here overall.

anyone use denagard? never used it with chickens before. only with exotics. still a little worried about the sneezing and such i see in my flock. might order some off of amazon

I do. Love it. They hate the taste but if you make them stick with it the full 7 days, works like a charm. 16cc per gallon. They will drink a little less at first, then they drink it better and clears up all kinds of respiratory symptoms.

thank you so much! good info to have. i hear i should add a little sweetener so they drink it better. i am trying not to freak out. i know its nothing major, just some sneezing and such but i am not going to take chances. never had them sick like this. i do have a good amount of experience with avian health so that helps. so do you toss the eggs and for how long?

everywhere I have checked I have not seen withdrawal recommendations. We go ahead and eat them ourselves but to be safe I don't sell them for eating to others for couple weeks. I have hatched the eggs and no issues with chicks.

I'm new to back yard chickens so I'll apologize now if I'm in the wrong spot. I just got 4 chickens and I love them so much I'm wanting to add some ducks to the flock. Does anyone know if or where I could get duck eggs to hatch in Utah? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I didn't see your post about duck eggs. I have ducks and drakes and eggs ;-) I would be happy to get you some eggs. I have never tried to hatch them, I don't know if the drakes are doing their job, though they try, and try and try LOL
Ducks and chickens really like different environments. My ducks don't like to be dry and my chickens don't like to be wet. It does pose some problems when housing them together. The humidity associated with ducks is very high, this can cause some concern (especially in the winter)
Drakes try to make whoopie with chickens sometimes (I hear) and it can kill the chicken.
Chickens like to perch on the highest comfortable spot, & tend to poop on the ducks.
Just a few concerns to think about if your housing them together. Mine don't even share the same part of the yard. It's the North VS. the South around here, & the dogs have lost their playground LOL

Differences between Ducks & Chickens:
I have discovered ducks act much like MY children; Whereas Chickens act much like Facebook children (you know, the perfect ones that don't really exist)
Ducks demand to be fed, entertained, watered, given treats, they love getting everything as wet and muddy as possible. They demand to be let out in the morning and refuse to go to bed at night without much bribery and cajoling.
Chickens. happily greet me in the morning and seem surprised that I have brought them food. They gather around my feet and let me pet them, they peck gently at my fingers. Eventually, they wander out into the yard for a full day of foraging. When I go into their yard during the day to work or check on them they come out to greet me, chirp happily then go about their business, and are again surprised to see me bring them food in the evening. I go out at sunset to find them all in their pen awaiting the closing of the gate and coming of evening. They chirp a soft "good night"
So yep, I can see why people have chickens now. I still love my messy demanding adorable ducks...but yeah......I get it now.
