my flock looks so much better thanks denaguard is amazing stuff. wish more stores locally stocked it. i am so thankful for all the advice i got here such nice people.

glad you got your new roof. yes its very loud. how did your chickens do with it all? when we got our roof my girls were very upset with someone being up high like that with all the sounds and such.

in other news i have built up a good friendship with some crows and magpies, i toss them some food such as cat food and i talk with them. and they alert me to anything off in the yard and they run hawks and such off. i enjoy them because they are such smart birds. just watch chicks around them as they will eat them given the chance. they will eat mice and such too. i am learning what good tools they can be for chicken keepers so those of you worried about hawks and such it may be wise to make friends with these birds

Magpies and I will never make friends, They are on my $#*@#$ list for eating chicks Grrrr. Hats off to you for finding a good use for them!

i am giving it 9 days to be safe but yeah its cleared them up good. man this is so much cheaper and easier than dealing with meds for exotic birds lol. of course it should be.

i dont have chicks often and when i do so far they have been in a brooder in the garage so i dont have issues with magpies or crows eating chicks. but man that sucks they give you such a hard time. but yeah i love my bird friends. they dont mind my cat but if a neighbors cat comes to the yard they flip out. stuff like that. they are incredibly smart and are very motivated by food. and did you know they can talk like some parrots can?

Thanks you! I thought I was prepared for these guys, but man they are so much work. It's crazy just how fast they can destroy a clean cage

I can't wait until our shelter is built so they can go outside during the day. Bath time makes it all worth it though. Cutest thing ever. I love watching them swim.

I thought I was prepared when I got my first two, I was more prepared than some, a lot of things changed & upgraded, but nothing can really, fully, prepare you for the projectile poop factories that are messy ducklings.
LOL it IS amazing how messy (and wet) they are. Adorable, but wow! they can drain a bucket of water in seconds, just playing in it. When I just had two it was not as bad, but then my mail order 12 came. I tried everything to keep their brooder clean, all sorts of beddings, changing the bedding etc. They went outside at about 2 weeks old or so. I could not handle the smelly mess in the house anymore .The weather was warmer than usual and they had their heatlamp and heating pad and warm straw and I never lost one. that was last March/ April.

As soon as I could I put them on "all flock pellets": this will cut down on the waste and mess of the food. nothing ever cuts down the mess of the water. I have a few spots in the lawn I fill up with water so they can noodle holes in it. And stomp in the mud puddles, It is their favourite thing to do.

bathtime was so funI built a pond in the back yard because I love watching them play in the water so much. I do miss watching them so close up. They get older and don't like being handled so much anymore.

Hey all! Hubby went to the work session for the planning commission mtg for Roy tonight. The chicken/rabbit ordinance is looking promising but there is still the public hearing on May 10th and then the city council hurdle (though we should have 3/5 majority). If anyone wants more info let me know. I don't know how many are on Facebook and have seen our posts.

Also wondering if anyone is interested in a 9-10 week old likely roo? He's either a Marans/Legbar mix or a Welsummer/OE mix (I can't remember which chick he was). Has greyish-blue feathers under the brown.

I can't even imagine having 12! The two I have are enough. I am constantly changing the bedding and filling water. They are too funny though. They aren't much for being handled, but the second they see a banana, you have best friends They are pretty quiet, but I can tell when they have made too big of a mess because one turns into an alarm to alert me he needs bedding change or wants a bath. I can't even wash my hands or do dishes without his little alarm sounding that he wants a swim haha. I just got them a kiddie pool, so as soon as this rain stops they can go outside and make a mess and quit messing up the house
