Utah!

Well, according to the new ordinance, you can ONLY have HENS, and ONLY for eggs, no food birds.

The limits listed above are actually different in the ordinance, so please take the time to read the actual ordinance, as the lowest limit are 4, then 6, then 8, then 10. The concern is that their documents don't properly coincide.

I also am worried about how it doesn't state anything about Grandfathering any current chicken owners and their current (and in compliance) flocks.

I support you 'in compliance folk' 100% but I am also 100% in favor of loosening the restrictions in place now because I may or may not know somebody's friend's neighbor's wife's cousin's uncle's daughter who may or may not be in compliance.

That worries me as well. Although I appear to be an outsider in this (being in Sandy and zoned agricultural) I don't understand why people wouldn't be grandfathered in?

The proposed ordinance numbers we doubled today -- meaning for my 5,000 they are now proposing I can have 4 chickens (versus 2 yesterday). It's still too low!

Currently I have six chickens (only 3 of which that lay eggs -- the others are just pets). What are they wanting me to do with the extra 2?

I don't mean to drag anybody off-topic, because I think the current one is really important.

I was just wondering (knock on wood - all are healthy as far as I know) if anybody knows who locally does necropsies and what the price would be? I'm assuming Utah State does them, but was looking for feedback. Any ideas?

Necropsies....

I'd call Dr. Laurel Harris of Foothill Animal Clinic and Wasatch Exotics to ask if she does or could recommend someone. She's an excellent Avian vet here locally.

Daysiechicks has used her for her chickens. I've used her as well, although not for my chickens -- she saw my =^. .^= Mr. Catterton for a rather severe dental infection.

Is there anyone near North Ogden who would be willing to come to my place this weekend and help me process my 5 RIR roosters? I've done rabbits before, but never anything with feathers, and I'd really like someone to show me how its done in person.

I would be happy to split the meat with you, or give you some EE pullets, or pay you a small fee in exchange for the help!

Please email me at [email protected] if you can help.

Thanks!!

I'd LOVE to come help you out! Wait.... North Ogden? Maybe not. Sandy's a bit far to travel for that.

However, if anyone else in the valley ever wanted help, I could use the experience! There are some good videos on youtube that show how to clean birds. Rabbits, fish, chicken, they're all pretty much the same after you do one of them...

BTW,
Lucky and Ducky our 2, week old chicks are doing just fine!
