They are and will be again. Just need a lot of TLC until they reach their full potential again.

Lady pulled the ad after we went. Only two had the frostbite. She only wanted to get rid of those two and the roosters, she didn't want to part with the others. Only let us take a third pullet when it refused to part with two we put in the cage already. We've nicknamed her "me too" for now.

How sad! Did you end up with a rooster, too?

I'm probably going to get that Jersey Giant that's been up on KSL. It looks like a very cool bird - it will be funny to see her running around with my little Sebright Banty.

Nope no rooster. She had a couple of beautiful ones, but they were just too big. Our smallest bird is under three pounds. Not a bantam, just a runt. Didn't think that would be right making her live with an eight pound plus rooster.

Didn't see that jersey giant on there and now I'm afraid to go back on there in case I end up with even MORE chickens.

Thanks for asking - Lola is almost completely re-feathered, except for a few on the very top of her head that are still spiky blue quills - very punk. She still looks smaller than she did before - she's covered, but they're not full-length yet (make any sense?). She hasn't started laying again, haven't gotten an egg from her since the first week of December. I'm afraid she got a little bit of frostbite on one of the very tips of her comb, but none of the other birds show any signs of frostbite, so I'm assuming she was doing her best to keep her body warm (other than her wing feathers, she was essentially nude - I swear I'm making her a sweater next year!).

I saw your frostbite thread on the BLRWs - I almost called on them, too! They looked gorgeous. It makes me a little sick to hear how bad their feet are - when you say they'll lose part of their feet, does that mean the toe bones fall off once the flesh is completely dead? Ugh. Those poor things. They're lucky you took them!

Stand With A Fiddle - I saw that Jersey Giant - so pretty. Did you get her? I'd love to have one, so I keep thinking... 'hmmm. I'm going through Logan next weekend on the way home from the cabin at Bear Lake... But I'd have to hold her in a box on my lap for 2.5 hours to get her home - we're taking the truck up and our standard poodle will be with us...' Realistically, I shouldn't get any more birds until it warms up a bit. She sure looks like a beauty, though. I spend way too much time on KSL.com's poultry section looking at birds, dreaming and plotting.

Did anyone go to the UPFA meeting on Friday? I'm going to try to make it next month. Their Spring show is March 12-14, and I'm very definitely going!

OMG! I had been e-mailing her and called her twice and left messages, then pulled her add some time monday. The pictures of the birds were great looking, I was hoping for 1 or 2 of the BLRW and one of the BA's, She said the pictures were about a month old. Ya must have scared some sence into her I hope. Good luck with the new girls I'm sure they will do well in some warmer weather.

I was looking at that Blue Giant as well she sure looks nice but to far for me for just one bird (even three which are about all I could squease into the space I have left)

We looked at them on Tuesday afternoon, I swear the ad was still up then, but could be wrong. She said that two people other people had contacted her and she had not called them back. I went to look at the ad again on Thursday and noticed she had pulled the ad by then. She was in WAY over her head and didn't know much about chickens. It was such a shame because they were all beautiful, well-bred birds. That BA hen was one of the most GORGEOUS looking birds. The BA rooster had most of his feathers singed off by a heat lamp.

Do you remember the one walking in the snow that was mostly black with a little brown? I loved that picture. We have that bird now, she'll lose half of her feet, her head feathers were singed off and she had a horrible lice infestation (well they all did, but hers was the worst). The lice had shredded her feathers.

If they pass their quarantine (and they appear to be healthy) they will most likely live inside until spring at which time we'll make them their own little coop where they don't have to walk so much.

“Monday” may have been a senior moment I was really surprised when it disapeared. It seems like her ad was on for almost two weeks I started looking at some less expensive birds then jumped hard towards her birds but she didn’t email or call back. There were some sad looking birds on the out skirts of the pictures she posted but the main subject pictures were of nice looking birds. They must have gone downhill fast over the last month.

If you have them inside that will really help, frost bite can be really tuff. Not to mention any side infections you might get. Good luck.

So is the black and brown one Me Too?

Hey Kimbobim - if you are serious about making a sweater, I found a knitted pattern online and printed it off - I could get you the link if you want it. I was considering it for my naked chicken, but never got to it.

No, unfortunately right now the black and brown one's nickname is "stubby", which obviously if she passes quarantine, we'll change it to something a bit more appropriate. "Me Too" was a different one, one of the blue ones. She's definitely a prima donna though and is very good at giving stink eye.
