Utah!

Ok, is this message the first message on the 100th page?
Yes it is!
Yipee!

Ok, I just wanted to let you all know 3 good things happened today.

1) I called the Salt Lake zoning department. (I've been worried about the 8 or 10 chickens people can now have with the new law [that isn't actually in effect yet folks..]). After the code enforcement guy talked about the new law for several minutes, I asked about A-1 zoning. He laughed and said, "No, this new law isn't for you. If you zoned A-1, there really is no limit to the amount of chickens you can have" I said, "even if it's residential?" He said it doesn't matter, as long as that's what you're zoned for.

2) Yes, it's almost midnight, but I just finished my taxes! Fwew....

3) Plus I got first message on the 100th page on the Utah thread!

2. Congratulations! I still have two people's taxes to finish tonight.
3. Again, congratulations, pretty cool to be #1 on page 100. Quite a feat!

Yup!

Pam referred me to Curtis, I think. He was the one who told me it's not actually law yet. He said that they'll do another reading tonight (whatever that is), and I ~think~ vote on it, and it could become law by the end of April. He said it's for folks in unincorporated SL County, who are in Residential zoned areas. (R-1, R-2, etc...)

I hear ya, i'm sick and tired of the cold windy weather!

I think my chickens are sick of the weather, too - they won't even come out from under the coop today. Seeing the mountains covered in new snow is so gorgeous in October/November, but in April it's just downright demoralizing.

My magnolia is all confused and started blooming, then stopped. So half of her blooms are brown and dead, the other half haven't opened yet. Sad looking tree.

Has anyone heard if Wasatch Gardens is going their coop tour again this summer?

The second reading of the new ordinance tonight is just a formality. They have already voted and it has passed but before it can codified they have to jump through the hoops and have a second reading.
And as for being zoned A1, thats an agricultural designation so even if the neighborhood has grown up and seems more "residential", if the zoning hasn't ever been changed, it's still technically farmland : ) My parents live in a neighborhood like that and I have always been jealous that they can have the comfort and conveniences of living in town and the freedom do pretty much what they want with their property.

Got a question for ya'll...

I've got a great batch of 29 baby chicks all growing like weeds! From the biggest RIR and a couple of Rooster Delawares, all the way down to "Dottie" our first attempt at a Silver Laced Wynadotte.

The problem is, Dottie is a small. Not saying she's a runt, but she is small. Our smallest. And you know what happens with the smallest? They get picked on.

Dottie's had her hind side and breast fathers pecked out. She's been fenced off in the same pen as the others for about 10 days. We tried putting her back with the flock last night for about 15 minutes. They started right back in on her. We've tried Blu-Kote, but it didn't seem to matter.

Last year we had one that was also picked on just like her. We tired Pine Tar, Blu-Kote, Tit Salve, and anything else we could think of. We ended up selling her.

So, I guess my question would be; does anyone have any other suggestions?

Or would anyone be willing to 'rescue' a sweet little Silver Laced Wynadotte? She's 5 1/2 weeks old, but would need to be put in with 3-4 week olds to grow up not being pecked on. I paid $4.50 for her and with 5 weeks of feed, I'd sell her at a loss for $6. PM me if anyone is interested.
