If I get a hatch rate with enough to share I'll post it. Keep your fingers crossed.

Well, my hatch rate was just so-so. We got 7 out of 21 (all shipped). Hoping my rooster count is low.
Almost finished with the coop as well.

i think ifa in draper used to sell them but now the smallest they have is the 3/4" size for animals larger than chickens. if you call around someone might be able to direct you to a store nearby. personally, i felt the $7 shipping charge was well worth not having to call/run all over town looking for these things. gas is expensive and time is limited.

and yeah, i'll bet if you show your birds how it works they'll be drinking from it in no time. posters on here said their chickens figured it out on their own in a couple of hours.

True about the cost of gas and time! If my birds are likely to take to it, then maybe I will just go ahead and order them. Thanks!

Yeah just order them. They come fast, they work, and the make raising chicks easier. If you don't have a 11/32 drill bit, then you can use a 3/8 bit. If you order them from homesteadersupply.com they are really fast.

Where did you get the chicken nipples?

Ha-ha! Stop saying chicken nipples! I can't stand it!

I dibs "Chicken Nipples" for my (nonexistent) band's name!

On the serious, though, anyone else raising runner ducks? How about Sebastopol geese?

Well one of my pullets crowed this morning... tis the season!

I ordered only two Egyptian Fayoumis so I guess now I hv a breeding pair. I really wanted hens as they lay early (and I thought it'd be cool to say "Yeah, they hail from the Nile in Egypt"

. I would keep them but hardly need yet another coop. I already plan on a bachelor pad because I got a bunch of "banties for warmth", unless I can pair up a couple more. I need to post a pic of a few, I hv not a clue what breed they are.

Anyone interested in purchasing the Egyptian Fayoumis pair? You too could be cool!

Very healthy and the other is definitely a hen.

Edited to add: If no interest here, what do you think I should ask for them on KSL?

Thanks!

What a great coop! I envy all you chicken raisers - your brooders and coops stay nice and dry. My ducklings have their fresh litter soaked within an hour. Pee-yew. I'm cleaning it twice a day, what a pain.

A local chicken rancher I know charges the cost of the chick plus 50 cents for every week he feeds them. So if they're six weeks old, it'd be $3 (or whatever you paid) plus $3 more dollars for the feed you put into them. You may be able to sell them more expensively on ksl, though---seems there's always someone willing to pay whatever you ask.

i would do it for $25-30 for the pair, and if you have to you can haggle a little too. i am not a expert but i did buy my girls for $15 or 20 each and they were i think 16 weeks

We are clearing out our old horse shed this weekend to prep for our chicken coop - yay! We anticipate either having our first chickens either next weekend or the weekend after that. I will post pics as we progress.
