yes, speckled sussex...she is growing back her feathers nicely..took her from a friend to give relief from a roo. I have her on ksl for sell right now..some of my own pullets that I hatched are getting real ready to start laying..checking out the nest boxes..thank goodness, now let's hope they use them!

Grumbles lays a real nice med. size cream color egg. In a nest box!

Cute names everyone... I may just have to steal some.

Thanks both! (I think....). I hope I never have to but if so, I want it humane. We did meat chickens one year and my husband said he'd rather gut an elk anyday than butcher a chicken again.

As for the naming of flocks we've had as many as 25 with names and my daughter knew each one. Right now we have the famous "Betsy", Izzy (tiny Red Pyle OEG), Rosie (RIR), King Tut (Egypt Fay), Fuzzbutt, Phoebie, Summer (Wellsummer), Bree, Gabby (yes from Desp Housewives), Mr. Doddle (tiny grey game roo we gave away), Buttercup, M&M, Mango, Peach, Carrot, Dominoe, Bing & Ming (two leghorns), and a bunch with the name "Oh Girrllllssss"...

when i was first planing on chickens i had a bunch of names picked out such as barbie Q, chickenpox, and a bunch of others but i just did not use them. i guess i kinda use chickenpox when my niece is around because she likes the name but i do not use it any other time. i do call my girls names like loud mouth but that is when they are doing things they shouldn't

but i love them all

Hey, Does anyone know the best place to get 1 or 2 year old EEs here in saltlake? I have been watching ksl but EEs don't come up that often. I would like 3 or 4 of them to expand my flock.

On their visit yesterday, they had the honor of meeting our very territorial and aggressive red heeler and thankfully decided they would rather flee than fight. I'm not sure what we are going to do, but they look like chicken killers to me.
As if the hawks and fox weren't enough... now we have these too.

Does anybody have any ideas? Two things off the table are calling animal control (we don't want to be on their radar) and putting up a higher fence (no $$ right now, but it is the plan for next summer). Our coop is electrified, maybe that is enough?

maybe one of those motion activated sprinklers will work? you could also even do a small electric fence. around here animal control has a drop off kennel where you can drop of strays. its for after hour use and is just outside the building and you just drop the animal off and then fill out a short paper. i do not know if you want to do that option but i had to throw it out there. you can also talk to the neighbor
