Thanks! It's a St George winter already for us. But I still have tomato and pepper plants giving fruit. I won't go outside without shoes though - it's 40 degrees!!!! BRRR!! (What a baby!) I've been feeling bad for my girls when we get the strong winds - so I've made some wind blocks and looked into "heat rope" etc besides the light bulb in the coop. Overkill probably, but it chills me, so.......

Hi all!

I bought a day old BCM from River Rock Family Farm. It was advertised as straight run, and unfortunately, I got a roo. Initially, she said if I got a cockerel, she'd trade him for a pullet, but that it wasn't her general policy. She ended up not following through on that. However, he was a very beautiful, strong great example of a BCM. The farm was extremely well run, all animals nicely cared for. The quality of their breeding stock and chickens was excellent. I would definitely buy from them again, and now that I've suddenly decided I NEED a cream legbar (thanks a lot, the-bird-man!!), I probably will next spring.

Boots, I'm sorry, I don't know of anyone who processes chickens. I have a friend who used to keep chickens, and I know she was able to put her spent chickens in the truck (with a shell), drive to some processing plant, and they'd get them out of the truck, and she'd come back a couple days later to nicely packaged meat. I wonder if you googled "Chicken Processing Northern Utah" and then called a couple of the companies that popped up if you could find someone.

There are some legbars in MO...expensive right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm waiting, the price will come down after they've been bred for a while.

The only place I've seen advertise, is on ksl. There is a guy that will put up an ad every now again..may go check there and see if he's there now.? Good luck... Not sure where you are in utah..but in Provo, there is a place, can't think of the name, but seems there are a few processing places in Utah county. Phone Book?

Coming up to SLC / Nephi area in early December from St George. Would anyone have any fertile chicken eggs for me to buy? Any breed or mix is fine but would prefer no bantams. I'm dying to try out my DIY bator and hubby won't let me start any until we get back from Nephi. If I can bring some back with me from Nephi/SLC, that would get me started that much sooner!!

I'll come to you or meet you somewhere. If I don't get any takers, I'll have to buy some Whole Foods eggs and try that out first. Otherwise, it's off to the bidding boards I go.

Thanks!

If no one here answers you might try looking at KSL classifieds. Sunnybrooke Farm in Draper may have fertile eggs for sale, I know River Rock family Farm does as well, but they are north in South Ogden (or something up there). I hope you're able to get something while you're here!

Its been a really bad couple of days. Saturday a juvenile delinquent shot and killed our favorite hen. It was in the coop at the time. I called the sheriff and he is looking into this. I told him I wanted to press charges, because the shooter needs to learn a lesson its a class c misdemeaner to shoot a bb gun in the city and its a felony to torture or kill an animal thanks to Henrys law. There were other things shot up as well, but this kid needs to learn a lesson and his mother sure as heck aint going to teach him as she is has her own issues.

that is horrible! i am so sorry
