Utah!

We can wait until after this month. They will be older. Like I said, I do have them with their mom and a heat lamp..so they are nice and cozy warm. I can keep the price the same. Unless you are really really excited to have them now. You will have to get a heat lamp for sure..they are too young for no heat outside, even in a garage. A bunny cage would be fine. They are in a small coop now. If you use a bunny cage, you would only need a light bulb, a 75 at least, if they are in the garage..you would want to keep any kind of breeze from them during the night..during the day, I open one side of the coop from a tarp we use at night. Maybe you could also put something around the cage to keep the heat in at night, then open one side during the warmest part of the day. I have a daughter that lived in Logan, I know how cold it gets there!!
So, bunny cage, surrounded by something at night with a warm light bulb, not too low for them, then open one side or two, for them in the day. They need chick feed..that's what I've been feeding them. Watch the water, make sure it doesn't freeze, water is very important to chickens.
Let me know.

You won't believe this! I just had my first one hatch that's due tomorrow..it's black! I was typing away here, and heard a loud peep peep. I jumped up, my DH looked at me, I ask, did you hear that? I have a baby...lol... I thought for sure they would be different..I hope so. This one came from a very green egg, almost olive green. I want one of those in my flock too...I want I want, wish I could have a lot of chickens, but live in a neighborhood, and I hatch to replace the ones that will go in late summer. I want a white girl. Or even a little chipmunk one that will look like your onery girl.

Ok we could do all of that no problem. I have lots of chick starter here and the little waterer and feeder, have the heat lamp that used the 250w red OR the 75 w white, or anything else. Garage is insulated too so it stays above freezing, about 40 degrees when it is really cold , warmer in the daytime. I could let them out on sunny days on the back patio as they get closer and can handle some chill. The bunny cage is what I was keeping Zirk in, when we got chicks last spring we had 5 in there at 3 months old it is pretty good sized. NOW I have to get the husband on board.

He works til late tonight....we are coming to Layton Saturday to watch my daughter dance at a drill team competition and could make the drive further down after to pick them up if you are around. Or anytime later than that too if that does not work. Let me talk to him tomorrow and think the whole thing through to make sure we can work it out. I will get back to you! Thanks again! They are totally ADORABLE and I want them!

Just saw your post on your baby! Congratulations! The chipmunks are so totally cute when they are little, I do hope you get one. Our Zirk was by far the cutest baby we had last spring. Too bad she turned into such a stinker. I really want blue ish eggs bad though, so I would go with the older ones there might be a better chance....or if any of your new eggs are more blueish and hatch a black baby let me know

I take that back, it's not completly black, interesting, black with the yellow on the head and down the back? Hmmm..this is going to be fun to see what I get..I have 8 in there.
I do have some blue in there..not sure I will be awake when they hatch out though, two that are quite blue. I am thinking they won't hatch until later, the egg didn't look as full when I went into lockdown, so they will probably hatch tomorrow for sure, or even the next day. If that happens, then I will be here to watch.

Have a good night, good luck with DH.

Great news! I got a phone call from Brinsea, and my mini advance is all fixed. It was very, very broken, like the main processor board or something like that. Normally the part would be $80, but the manager felt sorry for me and gave me a discount.

Cynthia, I am so tempted to get a couple of your chicks, but I really shouldn't. I am not going to be anywhere near Spanish Fork for a while though. I'd love to see what color eggs they came from?

I have to admit that it's been really nice to not have to go out and collect eggs and do all of the winter coop stuff this winter. On the other hand, I really miss my chickens and collecting eggs from my own yard. White eggs are so boring.

If you're interested, I do have some pictures that I took a little over a year ago of my coop. Here's a link: http://acaptivechicken.blogspot.com/2011/12/i-actually-wrote-this-blog-post-in-oct.html

Temptations, are good at times.

I would totally miss not collecting eggs, and going out to talk with my chickens. They talk back, but in a nice way, because they want treats.

The black ones in the picture on this thread with the mom, were blue, and more blue than green in some. Then there's the pure Marans.
I just hatched out more black babies, and one yellow splash, that came from a very blue egg, and I think this one will turn white.
I personally think they are easy to take care of at this age, and cheaper. There, how's that for temptation? I already have a couple of the older EE's sold. They are going to be pretty for sure, I am keeping one of the blacks.
So, if I tempted you enough, let me know.

I will sell the babies that I hatched today for only 3 dollars. I may keep one, not sure, wasn't expecting to get more blacks. These black one came from a real pretty green..one was almost that Olive green, quite dark, the others were quite dark, except like I said, the splash came from a blue.
Will post of my new ones hatched today..

There's two things holding me back, Cynthia. One: you are a good 2 hours away (thank goodness! This reminds me of freezing my credit cards into a block of ice)

Two: I mentioned in casual conversation to a couple of my kids' teachers that I have an incubator and that if they wanted, they could hatch eggs in class. To my surprise, I had FIVE different teachers jump on board with it. So, starting in early February or so, my incubator will be running full time. As you saw from looking at my chicken coop, I will not be able to keep all the chicks I hatch, let alone letting me give into temptation and go buy some now.

Sphinx--it looks like you are from my area---I am going to Cynthia's Saturday, (more temptation here he he), if you want me to bring a treat back for you I sure can
