Ok this post is making me cry! I am so sorry Cynthia. It makes me so sad that you got that far with her and then it ended so sadly. I hope your new hatches have great luck....I will keep you posted with pics so you can see how they do turn out. Ugh.
My DH's dad passed away in the night last night at the nursing home, been so busy on the phone, and trying to help him....I feel like there is sad stuff all around

Not the way a New Year should start. Here's to a better week next week, and a lot more smilies after this bad week is put to rest. Cynthia, be sure to keep us posted on your new chicks. I really like seeing the progress reports and am especially excited for you now to get the flock of girls you want!

Oh Lisa..give your DH our condolences! Scott's mom passed away at the end of Oct. She was almost 86 years old, and she was in an assistant home living place. I worked at one of those. Loved it! I love older folks..now I'm becoming one. Yes, let's hope that next week brings better news for us, especially for your family. Sorry again.

Sorry she didn't make it. Guess our hen is going to be lonely for a bit. We've thought about putting the blind bird in with her, but the blind one gets around too well. Who would have thunk?

Thank you hen. Where do you live?

Thanks Sphinx, Cynthia....will be glad to put this week behind us

I went out to lock my girls in for the night and just watched them for a bit through the doorway...first time I smiled all day. Something about their silly quirky nature, always brings your spirits up.
Also, on another positive note...Miss broody is still laying, she took 27 days off, and has laid 11 in a row now, 8 a.m. sharp every morning. She is on a roll, I hope she keeps going for a while this time. Last time after she laid ten she started doing the little cluck cluck march march and after a week she stopped. She seems to be fine so far

So Cynthia, we will see if she exceeds both of our predictions. Crossing fingers! oh and MORE hatching eggs for you? That will make you feel better

I hope you get a black Ameracauna from the ones in your bator

I have been drifting in and out, but I thought I'd finally say hello. Also, Casa de Pollo and Cynthia, I'd like to offer my sympathies for the rough time you guys have been having. It's never easy to lose a pet, nor a loved one. I hope things are looking up for the two of you.

Well, if I can throw in a tad of cheery news, one of my pullets started laying on New Year's Day, and she's been giving us an egg a day since

I made sure to give her some tomatoes as treats (she loves the cherry tomatoes) This is the first chicken I've actually owned that is laying.

You have to be excited! Congrats!! I get excited every time one of mine that I've been waiting on starts to lay. I just had my Partridge start laying last month. After waiting all summer long, it's great to finally see what color she will lay. It's a pretty brown.
What chicken started laying for you?

Yay! That is great news! I am waiting on two that should have started. I am the coop stalker right now. How many more do you have that you are waiting on? It could be like Christmas all over again

Also thanks much for the best wishes. Life will happen but we keep our heads up!

Whittni, I saw on your siggie you have a Jap bantam. Aren't they fun?! Is yours broody all the time? Just wondering if mine is psycho or normal haha! Also what color is yours? I would love to hear what your experience has been/personality of yours, have been looking for somebody else who has one, my family really likes this breed. When we got her she was so tiny, she hopped in and out of the chicken wire holes the first week and we could not keep her in the cage. She looked like a cottonball

Also do you breed yours--just wondering in case we want another one. We have no rooster so we will have to get one elsewhere when the time comes.

Hi, They are totally fun! I've only had mine for a few weeks and she hasn't been broody, yet. The lady I got her from had lots of broody momas and this hen, Pidge (short for pidgeon) was one of them, I requested to get this cutie! She brooded with another hen in the same nesting box...so they are pretty crazy in that way. She's great little hen. Her color is white with a black tipped tail, this is her:

I only have one Japanese Bantam hen, so I can't really breed her, unless you'd like a Japanese crossed with a Silver Sebright Rooster, that's the only roo in her pen.
