Lisa, how's your chicken this morning?

Cynthia, how are your chicks?

I took Hulksmash's hobble off yesterday, and her leg just isn't acting right. It seems to be flopping more than it ever did. Hobbling isn't "fixing" things. I wonder if maybe she'd be more comfortable with one on permanently, just to keep it in place, but I don't know.

I'm going to put new batteries in my flashlight and candle this morning.

No change in my girl :( Still hardly any poop. Acting exactly the same/heaving/straining. Not eating much. I have soaked her so many times, I might just let her be and watch her for another day, I wonder if I am stressing her out. Seems like she would get worse...if not better. Just going to let her be, until she acts to be suffering or lays an egg. Just sitting there mostly.

Hope your eggs are looking good! And Hulksmash--what to do! Hard to know....

I also get my at Steve Reagan but I swear we paid closer to $50/50#...however we purchased in the summer, which makes sense. supply/demand/ripoff. :)

I haven't used garlic but I have read you can put a couple peeled cloves into their water and just switch out for fresh ones every so often. Anyone on here do that? I use the vinegar in water for my dogs in the summer...but I still see some fleas. But we're in the boon-docks and it could be much worse so I think it helps, at least dogs.

Elk..fleas? I didn't know Utah had fleas. I know we have ticks up in the mountains. Never saw either down here in the valley..thank goodness! Did you get my e-mail? I was forwarning you about the eggs to hatch. I'm lucky I got this one little EE. It's getting much stronger on it's legs. It loves me when I go to put my hand in, it comes right into my hand and snuggles up, because for now, it thinks I'm the mom. When it gets with the others, that will go away. :(

Lisa, I was just talking with Scott about you. We were wondering how you did through all that rain. I was just coming on to ask, and you had already mentioned it..soo glad you didn't get any in your crawl space. Oooo, and mud too last year. What a mess. Glad your chickens are doing ok. :) Just your poor little one. Have you let her go out, and see what she does with her walking? Poor thing. If it's an egg..that has to be uncomfortable..like heck!

Shinx..I'm with Lisa, what to do..what to do? I don't think I would put anything on the leg..but that's me. Is she eating, and drinking?

How's bird man doing? Can't remember where you are bird man..did you get a lot of rain too? We got quite a bit, melted what snow we had out there, and I got a nice sized puddle right where I have to go to get to the coop. We are going to get some sand for that area, build it up. We have a neighbor that has a lot.
I hear that we are supposed to get more this week. We need the moisture, just not the trouble it can bring when it dumps.

Oh Lisa, your babies are EE's. They came from a blue/green egg, more blue..I remember that, because I was so excited about how more blue they were. My baby that I have now came from a blue/green, but less blue.

I got more eggs today.

More EE's...and there are some blue eggs in there! One is waay blue..hope it hatches, and it's a pullet. I also got some Australorps. That guy sent 8 exrtra! These eggs are in great shape, they should do well like the ones I have in the bator now. I have 4 mutts that are due to go into lock down next Tues. Got those because I had a neighbor have a hen go broody, the guy just gave 8 eggs to me, what was I supposed to say...no thanks, I'll just take 4? lol...the neighbor took 4. Anyway, they will come from a huge beautiful Buff Orpington dad, or RIR dad, and the hens are red sexlinks..so, we are talking pretty much sex links here.
The other eggs are the pure Lavender Ameraucaunas I got from a lady in Georgia..man, she has some beauties! They have been in the bator for about a week or a little over now.
Should I take a pic of my little black "girl". :)

Hey Red!

I have a few of two of the SP PR's..and my little black one..plus, one of some of my big girls up at the back door, they were peeking in before I could get my camera.the white leghorn always peeks in. The big girl is the Partridge Rock, that's the breed my new babies are, only Silver Penciled. :)

That's Baily up front, my little mottled bantam..she is a love!

The little black one is so precious! They all are!
Let me know how your Aussies hatch goes, if there is anyway we can get started on our coop project early enough and you have any pullets left to sell I may be interested, that was on my wish list! It is a little early but it might work so we will see----weather will be a factor for sure. I sure would LOVE an Americauna Lav, but again we won't be ready for a bit. My girls are maxed out until we can get another roost up with a little more leg room :)

It is looking like I may lose my bantam that is egg-bound, or whatever is going on with her....she is just looking pretty sad. Talked to the DH today. It might be time to take care of her. Ugh.

Cynthia - Update on my EE's from you-- Shirley is BOSSY, totally fearless, and in everybodys face, much more even than when she was little. Laverne is so shy, still hides a little, always following behind Shirley. You would think with the attitude Shirley may lean toward being a roo, but they really still look like pullets to me :) What do you think? Here are some Pics--

No pointy saddle feathers that I can see. Their feathers shimmer in the sun, reddish and greenish, I wish I could pick that up on my pictures. Only difference really is Shirley has much bigger black pupils, Laverne's are smaller and has feathered feet. Laverne's tail is shorter but she got pecked a while ago. before that they were the same. Combs are still narrow, yellow.

Oh my goodness, they are beautiful! I hope your one isn't too bossy to the point of actually picking on others. They really do look like pullets..easy to tell at this age. Oh man, I hope this little one is a girl. I want a black EE so bad.

Elk, tried to write you back..it wouldn't go! I will answer your questions here. Yes, the lavender Ameraucana will lay a blue egg. These in the bator are due in two weeks.
Shinx wants one, I will keep a couple, and if you want to buy the rest..you sure can.

Here I go counting my chicks before they hatch..but these weren't damp when I got them like my last batch. And, I know that 10 are viable right now. I never had 10 viable in this last batch.
You have 50 chickens? Maybe you aren't getting eggs either because it's too cold for them, or, how old are they. This is my plan for all of this hatching business. Replacing some of mine that are getting up there.
I have two lavender bantam Cochin's right now...a pair. I am going to place them on KSL and try and get some money for them. The color is one that a lot of people want, but you don't see too many bantams this color. They are inseparable! Pretty sure one is a cockerel, and one is a pullet, can tell at this age.
Lisa, thanks for posting, they are growing up. You will be getting eggs this spring!
