Utah!

Lisa -- hope you see this I couldn't get the pics to go away...re: your little bantam that you think may be egg bound... have you dunked her in a warm tub yet? I have saved almost every hen this way, only lost the ones that were 5 minutes fm "departing". If you haven't, do it immediately. Warm water, use your finger and help whatever's up there...out. It can be quite shockingly hard or gummy, looks nothing like an egg (but not guts or poo). Blow dry her and keep her in the house for the night, out of drafts. That should help a bunch. Don't know why I didn't think egg bound before now....duh.

The little black one is so precious! They all are!
Let me know how your Aussies hatch goes, if there is anyway we can get started on our coop project early enough and you have any pullets left to sell I may be interested, that was on my wish list! It is a little early but it might work so we will see----weather will be a factor for sure. I sure would LOVE an Americauna Lav, but again we won't be ready for a bit. My girls are maxed out until we can get another roost up with a little more leg room

It is looking like I may lose my bantam that is egg-bound, or whatever is going on with her....she is just looking pretty sad. Talked to the DH today. It might be time to take care of her. Ugh.

Cynthia - Update on my EE's from you-- Shirley is BOSSY, totally fearless, and in everybodys face, much more even than when she was little. Laverne is so shy, still hides a little, always following behind Shirley. You would think with the attitude Shirley may lean toward being a roo, but they really still look like pullets to me

What do you think? Here are some Pics--

No pointy saddle feathers that I can see. Their feathers shimmer in the sun, reddish and greenish, I wish I could pick that up on my pictures. Only difference really is Shirley has much bigger black pupils, Laverne's are smaller and has feathered feet. Laverne's tail is shorter but she got pecked a while ago. before that they were the same. Combs are still narrow, yellow.

Hi Cynthia, I got one email but that's all. Please try again, I'd rather take off board cause I have a bunch of uselss questions and I'm confused... so many batches. I will email you my ph# or you can email me yours. That might be best.

Yes, fleas in Park City and anywhere in Utah where there is sagebrush and critters. Bunnys, birds, mice are all loaded (along with mites). But up here only in warm weather which on the flea side is a plus, about 3 months. Otherwise it seems like it's always winter.

gotta run. sorry!

Elk..fleas? I didn't know Utah had fleas. I know we have ticks up in the mountains. Never saw either down here in the valley..thank goodness! Did you get my e-mail? I was forwarning you about the eggs to hatch. I'm lucky I got this one little EE. It's getting much stronger on it's legs. It loves me when I go to put my hand in, it comes right into my hand and snuggles up, because for now, it thinks I'm the mom. When it gets with the others, that will go away. :(

Lisa, I was just talking with Scott about you. We were wondering how you did through all that rain. I was just coming on to ask, and you had already mentioned it..soo glad you didn't get any in your crawl space. Oooo, and mud too last year. What a mess. Glad your chickens are doing ok. :) Just your poor little one. Have you let her go out, and see what she does with her walking? Poor thing. If it's an egg..that has to be uncomfortable..like heck!

Shinx..I'm with Lisa, what to do..what to do? I don't think I would put anything on the leg..but that's me. Is she eating, and drinking?

How's bird man doing? Can't remember where you are bird man..did you get a lot of rain too? We got quite a bit, melted what snow we had out there, and I got a nice sized puddle right where I have to go to get to the coop. We are going to get some sand for that area, build it up. We have a neighbor that has a lot.
I hear that we are supposed to get more this week. We need the moisture, just not the trouble it can bring when it dumps.

Oh Lisa, your babies are EE's. They came from a blue/green egg, more blue..I remember that, because I was so excited about how more blue they were. My baby that I have now came from a blue/green, but less blue.

I got more eggs today.

More EE's...and there are some blue eggs in there! One is waay blue..hope it hatches, and it's a pullet. I also got some Australorps. That guy sent 8 exrtra! These eggs are in great shape, they should do well like the ones I have in the bator now. I have 4 mutts that are due to go into lock down next Tues. Got those because I had a neighbor have a hen go broody, the guy just gave 8 eggs to me, what was I supposed to say...no thanks, I'll just take 4? lol...the neighbor took 4. Anyway, they will come from a huge beautiful Buff Orpington dad, or RIR dad, and the hens are red sexlinks..so, we are talking pretty much sex links here.
The other eggs are the pure Lavender Ameraucaunas I got from a lady in Georgia..man, she has some beauties! They have been in the bator for about a week or a little over now.
Should I take a pic of my little black "girl". :)

Hey Red!

Yes we have been soaking her, several times, I have tried putting olive oil around and just inside her vent. She was in the house in a box until this morning, I got her good and dry and now she is back in the brooder cage in the garage--it is pretty warm out there still and there is a lamp, I thought she seemed stressed today so I am giving her some quiet time out there just so see if that helps at all. One day of that at most--we might then do the ugly thing that will likely need done:(

Cynthia--thanks for the E-hug :)

yeah i am sure i payed $30 for a 50# of de. i am doing great. i live in the west jordan area so no flooding here, in fact i do not think we saw any rain. hey if anyone wants a good flashlight for candeling, harborfreight sells little 9 led flashlights that are normally 8 bucks but they are often on sale for a dollar. when they are on sale i stock up. they are nice and small, metal and super bright. i keep them stashed all over and keep one hanging up in the coop so if the power goes out i can have light

Lisa, after looking at your pics again, I'm not sure, would have to have a better shot of their butts, but..lol..those look like Auraconas! No wonder the eggs were more blue, if they are. Auraconas don't have the upright tail..I should try and see if I can find the pic that I got them from. They are so pretty, I can't believe it. I hope my little one is a girl, and in fact..I think it looks like a girl already..maybe because she is so much smaller than the others.. :p
I'll be looking for that place I got them. I have a barred rock looking girl right now that I am pretty sure is a pullet. She came from a pretty green/blue egg.

That is why I was asking about the Mom :) They look more purely Ameracauna to me than EE mixes with lots of other stuff mixed in. From the pictures I have seen anyway. Pretty girls. So I was wondering if the Mom was Ameracauna rather than EE, and we know the dad was BCM so they might be a mix of those two. It seems like the newlywed place you had posted did show black hens that were Ameracaunas. They do have rumps, but they are very small and rounded, their tails are kind of in between. Aracaunas have no rumps at all do they? Not sure here. ..My white EE was sold to me as an Ameracauna and I know they really are not when you get them from the hatcheries, but she sure looks like the pure Ameracaunas and lays blue, has slate legs, muffs and beards, super small pea comb, all the Ameracauna traits. And these black look just like her only black. 'cept for those feathered feet on Laverne lol. I wish I understood better how all the breeding stuff works, tell me all you know, it is very interesting! Are Ameracaunas a mix from Aracaunas or something like that? I know I read about this at one time, I cannot remember how it works :p I just love them, whatever they are haha!

Is your Barred girl an EE then? and does she have the puffy cheeks? or do other kinds of chickens lay green/blue eggs.....too many questions huh!!

Just saw your last post. So the Mom could be a black Ameracauna hen....these girls look just like their mom :) And come from blue eggs, but will likely lay olive eggs, from the dark brown BCM genes from Dad, yes? Dang I like blue better :) So I better get some more Ameracauna's now haha!

Good idea to hang one in the coop! I am going to use that one for sure.
