Utah!

Whew, I've been out having some good chicken fun/talk. Remember, these barnyard mixes were for a mama hen up the street that went broody. My friend kept 4, I kept 4. Well, I took the two that hatched last night and early this morning to the mama. The other two under mom haven't hatched yet, but she didn't mind a bit that we put those little ones under her. In fact, when we walked in the coop, and the babies made their little noises, the mama leaned forward in the nest box and started clucking, like..put my babies back..we had snuck the two out earlier to take a look, and I checked the other eggs..no pips in them..so she thought we had stolen her babies again. We just sat back and watched a bit to see how she would do. She stood up and did a snuggle adjustment and all was well. I still have two. The two that I sent over were buff, these two are looking like the RIR dad got to the hens. A good ol back yard chicken mutt. Makes for great laying hens. I hope one is a girl..or both! They have black in them, one not so much, but one looks like it has silver too..can't tell while still wet.
In the meantime, thought I would share a picture of what came to my door today.

These are the black, blue, and splash Ameraucanas..pure..love the blues...I wrote and asked about the more green ones, to see if black will more than likely come from them. Have to go see if she answered me yet..boy, a couple there are real blue, my guess is the splash laid those.

She did write back. The greener ones are from her older chickens, her foundation stock.
The blue ones are from her pullets/yearlings. She says you can't tell what color of chick you are going to get from an egg. I feel silly.

Cynthia congrats on successful hatching! It is like Spring at your house all the time lol. Hope lots of girls are in there :)
Edit-just saw the post with the blue eggs  Those are nice! My white EE lays one about the color of the greenish blues, kind of gray. Hoping for nice blues someday :) Looks like they arrived in good shape, good luck with those!
