Utah!

Hey someone posted this in the "Chicken ordinance" section asking about cities in Utah. Check it out and see if you can help answer which cities allow chickens. Thanks guys!

Also, watching you guys hatch all these eggs got me motivated to build an incubator. So it's all built and running with steady temps and humidity but now my hens have decided to take an egg laying break. So I'm wondering if anyone close to Heber City has any barn yard mix eggs they'd sell 6 of for my first hatch.

The first four out of my home made incubator. These are 3 blue wyandotte and a bantam. There are 4 more in the incubator drying out and 2 where waiting and seeing. If they hatch.

Yaay, another chicken person that likes to hatch, hope you find some eggs. Go to ksl and watch for eggs for sale close by you..call, see if they have roosters with their hens. :)

Oh, those chicks are sooooooo cute!!!!

I've been trying to slowly compile all of the chicken laws in the Salt Lake City area (it has come in handy with my *real* job as a realtor). I've been creating documents at the salt lake urban chickens group on facebook. That list of potential cities gives me new ideas on areas to research.

Shinx, interesting how different cities decide on what. We have to be 5 ft. away from a fence line on our property. With anything, including sheds, shop, dog run.

Well, my chicks came today, and, I am officially in lockdown with my lavenders! I have 9 in lock down. Everyone cross their fingers. I am trying to figure out which chicks are what that came today..lol..do many browns. The browns being, Speckled Sussex, rose comb leghorn, and the Auracanas..they look like little chipmunks.

There is one pure white chick that I don't know what is..the mystery chick I suppose. It's supposed to be an exotic..straight run. Will have to look up their exotics that are pure white. Hey Lisa..it isn't a black chick! My black chicks with chipmunk markings are the sliver laced.

Cynthia, where's the pictures?! I want to see pictures of the new babies. Good luck on lockdown with my, er your lavenders!!! I think my BLRW go into lockdown on Friday, can you believe it? I wonder what your white chick is.

My chicken run goes alongside our property line- the fence that marks the boundaries is actually one of their fences. The actual coop is a good 10' from the fence though.

I normally don't love Monday, but I'm pretty cheerful today for two reasons: 1- Sugar Free January is almost over and 2- Girl Scout Cookie sales are almost over. I'm going to turn in my daughter's order tonight, and then I don't have to worry about it again til delivery in March. And frankly, delivery is much funner than order taking.

Cynthia, fun the babies----exciting! So I read araucanas come in many colors, sounds like these are all similar, would love to see pics!! Are they brown too then mostly? I can't wait to see them :weee Did all the chicks arrive healthy? I hope so.
Sphinx--good thing sugar-free January gets over before the cookies arrive lol! I just ordered 12 boxes   I will be regretting that.

I have a question. I just called IFA in Riverton and they will be getting all of the breeds I want (Delaware, Easter Egger, Speckled Sussex and one more...breed is up in the air) but they don't get all the breeds with every shipment. So how does it work if they have 2 breeds I want one week then 2 I want the next week? Can I have chicks with that much age difference in the same brooder?

I would keep them separate for a week or two.. I always seem to end up with different ages brooding together, just keep an eye on them and make sure they have plenty of room and the smaller ones aren't being picked on... Having equal numbers or more of the younger ones has seemed to help as well.
