Hi Utah neighbors. Hope you don't mind my popping onto your thread to ask a question. Why aren't there any ads on ksl for ducklings and rarely for adults? The same can be said for geese too, although I realize goslings are only just now becoming available in other parts of the country.

Hi neighbor! My guess is that ducks and geese are not as common to own as chickens are, so you don't see them offered as much. That, or people really like their ducks and geese and don't want to give them up

I have seen ducks now and then on KSL, but I don't usually see geese. It's not uncommon for an ad to be up for less than a day, then either get taken down or marked as 'sold' because someone has contacted the seller and already snapped up the deal. If you're looking for ducklings or goslings, you might try checking places like IFA or Cal Ranch, or else take a look at some hatcheries. Hope that helps!

As I've been studying local city ordinances, chickens are MUCH more accepted than ducks and geese. Most cities will allow chickens, but no other fowl, so I'm not surprised that the others are tougher to find.

Here's the four chicks that have hatched so far today (they're blue laced red wyandottes)

Cobalt was hiding his/her head in the picture, and it's such a pretty red color that I thought he/she deserved a close up.

I know the one toe is a little odd in that picture, but it's flat the rest of the time, I think I caught it at a strange moment.

They are darling, I can't wait to see mine. And those two on top, just adorable! lol..I see that the tail is starting on the left one..that's a good thing.

Thanks for the replies! I guess zoning would be a potential issue in SLC, but I would think there would be more ads for the outlying areas. I just thought it was curious, especially when I see all sorts of other kinds of birds listed for sale.

Usually some people will occasionally post adult geese in fall.

And you can usually expect free or cheap baby ducklings around Easter since most people just buy them to give away then they don't know what to do with them. It's sad but it's an easy way to get free babies.

I am for sure getting 8 Hatchery choice goslings from Meyer Hatchery in mid March-April and I'm only keeping 2 since that's what I'm allowed to have. If you want to buy some, maybe I'll get a Sebastopol! lol


Cynthia: Orem actually accepts Geese & Ducks more than chickens. A man that lives near the community hospital says he got a citing for having 2 chickens but nothing for having 2 geese, a pheasant, and around 10 ducks. So I'm lucky!

I have new baby chickens! My broody Cochin Bantam hatched all 5 eggs I gave her. It turns out the 4 that were supposed to be pure Salmon Faverolles, were not Faverolle at all. One of those 4 did hatch out white, with feathered legs, a beard, and a black spot on his head but no 5th toe I'm thinking he's a rooster. The black on the wings and head kind of give it away but you never know since the dad was probably a blue silkie rooster that mated with the Salmon Faverolle hen. That explains my other 3 babies that hatched out of the tinted "Favorelle" eggs. They are all blue silkies! I couldn't believe my eyes. They are just so cute and fluffy and BLUE! I thought the color blue didn't breed true? That must only happen when it's blue to blue. Anyway, For some reason the last egg that was supposed to be from a Silver Spangeld Hamburg, hatched a black baby with feathered feet, and a beard. His daddy was probably a blue splash d'Uccle. This is going to be interesting to watch these guys grow up and feather out.

Imagine 1 baby that's half Favorelle Hen and half Blue Silkie, 2 babies that are half blue silkie, and half favorelle X EE mix, 1 Baby that is half blue silkie half gold brabanter hen, and 1 baby that is either half silver spangled hamburg or silver sebright and half blue splash d'Uccle. Oh boy.

Where did you get those eggs? If Fanny ok? Are you happy about getting Silkies?
