Utah!

See that's crazy. In Orem you are allowed two ducks per 1/2 acre no geese on residential property, no law on pheasents or game fowl. You are allowed six chickens on anything under an acre. Over an acre it's so many per extra acre until it's zoned as farmland. I live in Orem and have ducks and chickens. I've never had an issue with either. It sounds like he may have ****** off a neighbor, either way her was probably WAY over on ducks unless he was on 5 acres, but way under on chickens. It'd be something easily overturned in court if he wasn't over on ducks. . .

Ok, I'm really concerned now.

While I was out at dinner, last chick evidently pipped through another vein. There's several drops of blood now. She's still alive but I'm deeply, deeply concerned.

I appreciate the responses. After surfing the ads for a while, i finally ordered hatching eggs. I just hatched a clutch of Cayuga ducklings (and one Ancona), am on day 12 with a dozen Ancona ducks and 6 African geese, and have one more dozen Cayuga eggs on the way. :D

I will probably list the ducklings that I will not keep, but doubt I'd sell any goslings. I just wondered why they weren't more available.

I'm looking through the forum archives to try and find some help, Sphynx. Check post #6 on this thread (WARNING: Graphic picture)

I will keep looking.

Edit: Okay, everything I'm finding suggest peeling off enough of the shell to help it zip, like you have. It's also being stressed to keep that membrane moist, or else the chick can't get out. I've also seen a couple of things where people have had a chick that took more than thirty hours to actually get out of the egg.

Edit again: Yaaaay Sphynx!

Tell me! I was gone tonight and I got back on to see Sphinx' egg.....cannot quite tell from the posts what happened, the log on the webcam site will only go back a few posts......did everything turn out ok? It looked like it got worse, then a Yay from Red...Hope all is well. I knew I should not have left :p

Lisa, the chick was really taking a while and seemed to be running out of energy. Sphynx was worried because it had pipped through a vein and had more blood. She had peeled off some of the shell to help it zip, while leaving the membrane in contact, but was fearful of doing anything further incase it hurt the chick. Cynthia then walked her through getting a wet paper towel on the egg/membrane and carefully peeling off more of the shell so that the chick could get out. It looked like one of the feet was kind of twisted around and caught under the chick, but it seemed to be alright other than that. The last I saw, it still had a bit of the yolk left to absorb, but Sphynx had it back in the incubator and was keeping an eye on it.

Wow so much work to hatch that little guy. Hope he made it through the night. Thanks for the details, I watched that thing for hours on end and then as soon as I left....so much happened all at once. Poor baby!
