Still thinking about the black one too. How old is your pencil rock now?

My Pencils are younger than I was thinking..but they are a big bird..so looking at them, I thought older. They are now just over 4 weeks old. Really getting that pencil look. I have them out there with my black EE I told you I am keeping from Sonew.
Lisa, my black baby! It's teensy! My husband said that this morning, and I just told him that it hadn't fluffed out all the way yet. It was real sticky with that goop I've talked about, so I gave it a little bath. It was wet for a while again. My son comes home, looks in the bin, man, that is one tiny chick. I was thinking so by then too, because it was dry. It came from a regular size egg..no bantam eggs in this batch at all! It's sooo cute. I wonder why it is so tiny. It is doing fine. It walks well. It drinks. It's friendly. It's teensy! lol... not sure what to think about it. Maybe it will catch up with the others in a few days. Never saw such a small chick come from a nice med. sized egg.

I posted pictures of the same chick that I did here today..the lavender asking if it was too soon to tell the sex on the baby..first person said, looks to be feathering out like a boy! what?! And something about the K gene. Going to look that one up. ? Oh, and they really liked the big one that you got Lisa, said, nice muff on that one.

i am intreseted for sure but i just need to talk to my parents. but then there is the problem of me not heating my coop so i am not sure how that will work?

bird-man, I don't heat my coop and my birds have been fine, even when it's snowy outside. I do have a light on my month-old chicks, but I've noticed that my 1.5 month old's seem to be fine without a light. They have enough feathers that they've been okay.

birdman, if you want one, I will keep it until it gets warmer, no problem, and of course, when your parents ok it. :) I had them outside of the coop today, they loved it. They will be pretty much all feathered by mid March. So, they won't be needing any heat. I will have that off by then. All I have on them now is a 100 W. bulb, not the red heat bulb. I open the door for them in the day, so they are getting some of the cooler weather and doing fine.

I have two pips in my only two blue eggs in this next group now. There are only 5 in lock down.

Got my Araucana eggs..disappointed in the colors. :( Not even as blue as the ones that are pipped now. Pretty eggs anyway, and it will be fun for sure to see those fun little chicks..she did as she promised, and sent me 24 eggs. :)) I hope I get a tufted rumpless.

Cynthia--good luck with your eggs :) Will call you tomorrow from SLC and talk to you before we head down, to pick up Ozzie. Any guesses yet on those three amer. as far as gender? If the splash or black look girlie let me know. I am still kinda liking the light one :) Wish those eggs that pipped were hatching a day sooner to see what you have there....will talk to you tomorrow though. Good luck also on your Araucana hatch. Those are fun looking birds! I went upstairs to check on my two lavender babies....the little one is standing on the big ones back. Jumping to get out. Then back on again to try another jump. It is like a conspiracy in that brooder tub...they are trying to outsmart my setup lol !
