Utah!

How beautiful, Cynthia! I'm in love with those green ones on the left. Who knows, maybe I'll luck out and my EE pullet will give me green eggs when she starts laying?

I saw some ducklings out at the Tooele Cal Ranch last night. They had the yellow and chipmunk ones, but I also saw a bluish one that was sooo cute. I talked to someone there about ordering in some chicks with their next brood, yay! I really want a Welsummer, so we'll see what the scoop is when I chat with them next. Hopefully today.

i was at the riverton ifa today and those chicks were in the best shape of all the chicks i have ever seen at ifa! they had two workers sitting by them nearly the whole time i was there. in the past the chicks at this location have not looked the best but they are doing something right this year

i also noticed they were selling more of them straight run than what i remember in the past.

Ah HA! I thought that was a Blue Swedish

So the ones that I saw at the Tooele Cal Ranch were the Pekins and Rouens, by the sound of it. I'll have to keep that in mind about the Pekins, too - I find duck to be tasty, when prepared right.

oh Yes! And let's not even begin to talk about the duck fat for cooking.....y.u.m. Too bad I am such a wuss. I cannot even think about butchering a bird. I wish I could. But no way. So I have a deal with my neighbors when it is my girl's time they can have a chicken dinner if they do the deed.

Well, of the birds that I have butchered before, they were suffering and I think that really helped me to do them in. At least you have some neighbors who can help you out. I think if I raise birds for meat and understand that when I get them, it helps, too. Especially if I've given them a better life than they'd ever have on a commercial farm. And it really helps when one of those birds decides that it's going to bite me and peck at my hand for no good reason.........little cuss.........

Starting to get excited-- my first set of eggs from my birds are due to hatch tomorrow! I had some silver laced wyandotter in with the BLRWs, so only some will be BLRWs, but it is just a test hatch, so I don't mind. There are a dozen eggs that developed well, so I am hopeful. Very exciting!
