So here are some pictures of the girls in their new home. They finally outgrew the brooder so we transferred them yesterday. They seem to be happy and adapting to the outside. It's amazing how they have grown in such a short time!

Chickenmom---amazing system for feeding you have going on there! Way to go! I cannot believe they are already this big. Cute!

Cynthia---just saw your post on the lav roo---WOW that one is really a boy haha! So my big one is not that red----it is hard to tell on wattles, because here is what surprised me. My two both have started really poofing out through the muffs, and my big ones puffs are so big I cannot see any wattles or red at all, so I was trying to dig in there to see and I do not see anything like that pic. My little lav has a little smaller muffs--still much bigger than that roo but I am now POSITIVE she is a girl. The big one, is in between. So, still not sure. ARGH! I really thought boy at first, but more and more the last week or so I keep seeing little things that make me say no it is a girl. And now this....now I know there is at least a chance, should know soon though if the red does not show up like that guy on ksl! Wow if my big one does turn out to be a hen, I got the deal on muffs with that one. I will get a pic up soon. again.

Cynthia, I could try to stay away but you know I cannot.
I spent a few hours outside tonight. Sat by the coop/run, with the big door open, watching the 6 littles run around bravely as my 7 big girls started to inspect/chase/peck. I have a big squirt bottle, turned it on 'stream'. Everytime they touch the babies, blast of water! Scares them half to death. "Why does that happen everytime? How do those babies do that?" Now they are staying clear of the littles....they were all in there scratching and eating gunk from the floor happily amongst each other, acting like they did not even see each other. No panicking and flapping and running. I was the proud mama. I wish I would have tried this with my meanies before re-homing them, I have to wonder if that would have worked. I do not know how long the peace will last, but tomorrow I will be back out there enforcing the peace

It was really awesome, those littles were walking out in the run and everything, the big guns just minding their own business.

You crack me up..I am so going to try this!!

kimmypie - Without seeing pictures of your chicks, that's kind of what it sounds like to me. Four girls, a boy, and a ???

We have (hopefully) all girls. I only picked chicks if they were all sexed as pullets. I wanted a Delaware but they were only straight run at the IFA in SLC so I got two Buff Orpingtons instead. My first girls were two each of Easter Egger (one with puffy cheeks for our neighbor and one without for us, purely an accident but these are the only ones I can tell apart), BO, Speckled Sussex and Welsummer--we are keeping one of each of these and giving one of each to our friends. I went back the next week and got a Barred Rock and a second EE (with puffy cheeks) for us. I really wanted an Australorp because my husband is Australian but I wasn't able to find any day olds and I didn't want chicks that were already fairly old.

Wow, that KSL cockerel is definitely a boy. My bigger one is not that red. I may have to go take a picture of it. I'm not totally convinced it's a girl.


Four of my five BLRW are boys. sigh.
