Utah!

Okay, so I know y'all have chickens, but what other fowl have we got out there? (Yes, I know, I could read all 500 pages of this thread, but BYC already is taking up a lot of my work day  )

Ducks, quail? Anyone? I would love to add some khaki campbells to my lineup, and would be tickled pink if there were any in the area I could come meet.

Chiko had some ducks if I remember right? If he is not on here soon you could pm him.

Birdman---how many do you have now? Those girls went to a good home, they will be adored for years to come :)

i have 12. as hard as it is i am keeping it at 12, well for now lol. yeah i try to give my girls a good home. they are so much fun and even if i was always in the red with them i would still keep them, after all i keep parrots and they cost way more than chickens... so even when the girls slow down on laying they will still have a home.

Thanks Elk. And I'm sorry you've lost one, too

I would be pretty upset in your situation, too. I hate it when an animal suffers.

Upon further investigation, I believe there is a chance that my brother's husky could have gotten them while he was out on his cable. My brother was NOT happy with the possibility and made sure to show the dog the kennel I had the birds in and let him know that it was off limits. I'll tell you what, I'm sure going to be keeping a tighter watch on the rest of my babies. I just don't want to lose any more.

Thanks Red...and I apologize if anyone else responded. I got an email this morning about a post and it's just the most current one posted, nothing to do with mine...even tho set to "immediately". So if it seems I didn't thank anyone for my last post or the one asking about prolapse I apologize. Either my computer or the site but I can hardly get this to scroll or search so I'm finding it hard to look up.

Realized the morning after the pup killed the hen I realized I was missing my twin lone ranger roos. I locked Remy (the pup) up and let the older girls out and eventually BillyBob showed up. The friendlier one (BillyRay) is still MIA. I can't swear it's the pup tho because there is not a feather to be found and we did see a hawk (but these two are SO hawk savvy.

Then this morning so a fox near the coop next to our house so I took Remy out. He couldn't smell it in the air like my old lab could but when I took him near the coop he started tracking scent. Sure hope I can teach him. I don't think I can stand loosing another chicken, roo or not. BillyRay used to watch for me then literally come running. I could never touch him but he'd eat scratch out of a scoop from me.

Gotta run...I do hope everyone's ok and if I don't respond it's because I'm still having trouble with notification and or navigating this site.

*hugs to all*

Elk

Hi Elk, it isn't you. I don't get them in my e-mail all the time either. I get some, but most of the time they come hours later, or not at all.
Sorry about your fav. roo! :(

Man Elk, I hope your roo is ok. The last time I had that coon get a bird, my EE roo was MIA all day, then showed up before dark. I really hope your boy has just wandered off somewhere and is poking around.

I don't have the email notifications turned on, partly because they still seem a little glitchy. I just log in now and then and go to my profile, then look for updates on any of the recent threads I've posted on. I don't subscribe to any threads right now, though, so I'm sure that simplifies it.

Hope your boy comes home Elk! He is probably laying low....sheesh I am so glad we have not had any predators around our yard yet.....(other than my own dog) lucky so far. Hope it stays that way :/

Thanks Cynthia. After my quest for the blue egg my white EE started laying a blue this spring, was so excited...until the pup killed her. As awful as it sounds we crated him and put the dead hen in with him. We had a collar and leash and each time he looked or tried to sniff we'd pull on the leash. Then we put a live roo in with him (poor dude) and Remy didn't even dare look at him, even when the roo jumped on his back. The hen he killed had escaped when my teens fed and my older girls were out so I'm just hoping he considered her not part of the "hands off" flock. He still went after the last roo last night tho. Grrr.

I'm going to keep working with him tho. We had a fox this morning and Remy started trying to track it. Just hope when a coyote shows he doesn't think it's a visiting neighbor dog. My good chicken lab went to live in a warm flat climate so hopefully his leg will heal and he'll be pain free again. He has a swimming pool that his new owners let him swim in which is cool.

So thank you all and guess I should bookmark this page. Have fun with your fuzzbutts for me. I'm not getting any this year. :(

Thanks - that's what I'm hoping. We've been trying to catch the lonely one now and I'm going to put him in the coop. He doesn't have a buddy to help keep him warm at night now. Thought about offering to take any roo(s) that no one can have...and they really live the grand life, but they do stand the chance of predators. However, that is a swift ending and a nature thing. Still hurts but I'd rather that then sending them through the trauma of being boxed, a drive to some unknown place by strangers, then ending up dead anyway.

I don't subscribe to any threads because it does seem to be really glitchy.

I love that penciled hen. I may need to get one of those someday.

Donna, I'm dying to see your new cream legbars!

Wow Cynthia, this will be your last hatch of the season? I've got at least one more after this one- my dd's first grade is going to watch a hatch. I think my 6th grader's class may jump on it too, so I may do a hatch with them too. We'll have to see. I guess that is the nice thing about my brinsea- i'll get 7 chicks at the most each time.

I haven't braved the feed store yet. Need to go.

I had a lovely day yesterday. Went and visited my grandma and played with her brand new puppy. I love puppies. Especially if they're at other people's houses. Then visited my friend and did maternity photos of her. She's having her baby today. The pictures turned out really cute, which made me happy.
