Like I said, these that I just hatched, I had in the turner until  5 days until lock down..and look what happened!  They mostly hatched.  9 out of 14 into lock down isn't bad. I only threw out two from the very beginning.  I love the turner when I have a lot of eggs set..I got it when it when I knew I knew I was up for surgery.  I have had great luck with it..some people don't like them..not sure why.   It doesn't seem to bother my eggs when I set them on their sides.  A lot of people do it that way..in fact. I am going to try doing these Silkies the same way..time wise..5 days before lock down, maybe that helps give them time to get the feel of things..lol... Anyway, I do both. I use the turner if I have enough room for what I have, I have them on their side if the turner is full.  I get the same results as far as I can see.  Some good, some bad, whether in the turner, or on their sides the whole time.  ??  who knows?

Good to know. Thanks I can see some of Sasha's sticking inside, so I wondered if the turner had anything to do with it. Hope I can get some of hers to hatch. Shipped eggs grumble grumble hers go into lockdown on tue. so maybe I will take them out of the turner and get them in this still air on their sides when I get it cleaned out later today. Do bantam eggs hatch any sooner than LF eggs? I thought I saw somewhere to start lockdown a day early and they often hatch 19-20 days. Any advice on those? Sorry to keep pestering you

Oh that makes me have memories...poor mama. Are you usually there to help? I dont' know a lot about goats, but I have heard that people like to be there to help just in case..like pulling on those little legs easily when it's close. Good luck. When are the babies due again? Looks like anytime!

She is due today...but I think she will wait til sat. or sunday. I am always there when they kid, we have a lot of tangled up kids. We take the kids and bottle feed. That way I know how much milk the does are giving.

Oh how fun that is! And work too i am sure....but bottle feeding babies! Man if there are 4 or 5 in there that is going to keep you busy!

Another question----still wondering about the bantam incubating time----and also blue chicks at the feed store. I have seen blue wyandottes, blue andalusian--there would not be Ameraucanas (pure) right? has anyone ever seen true ameraucanas at a feed store? I have never.. just wondered.

Looking for some wisdom here. I just check my eggs under my broody silkie and one has a crack. So I candled and it is still living. Do I put it back under my broody hen or in the incubator? I can't throw it out it has a live baby in there. Any advise?
My two silkies are always stealing eggs from each other I'm sure it happened during one of those times. The eggs are due to hatch on the 3rd of May about 6 more days.

Someone suggested putting candle wax on an egg we had that cracked. It was an after the fact conversation. So I am not sure if it works or not. Hope someone jumps on and gives us the correct answer.

I have read that elmers glue works well...and candle wax will work too.

Lisa's doing my grunt work for me. I was running around town with the DH and stopped at Cal Ranch....and looked at the new chicks they just got in, which I should NEVER have done! Tell me guys/gals, what ARE these blue babies? They are TINY, like bantam Ameraucanas? Probably EEs, but are they blue or lav or...? I'm still so new to this!



Edit: So now that I really look at the pictures, I see feathered feet. NOT true Ameraucanas. But CUTE little buggers! (And still so tempting to go back and get a couple!)

I would put either glue or candle wax on it so it won't lose too much moisture
