Utah!

It is so funny how they react to each other isn't it? I have also seen them freeze up like that....it makes me take a breath, because I am terrified of what they are about to do, chickens just turn on a dime sometimes....it is such a great surprise when they just take a moment and then carry on with no ambush. I am so surprised at how different each personality is. They really are so interesting to watch. I feel sorry for people who do not get to know what fun chicken keeping really is. They are missing out on so much joy

We just bought this house the middle of February, and have SO much work to do on it, and around the farm in general. So I thought maybe, in a few years, I MIGHT get a small handful of chickens. Ha ha! So thankful my DH pushed me to get them sooner rather than later!
Oh, and yes, I'm so relieved that there was no sudden ambush on my teen chicks part! I was ready to snatch them up and out of there if that were the case. The frizzles weren't scared at all and ran right up to each teen to check them out. Very brave!

Not as mush naked neck showing. I hope I get some, just to see them. They are like frizzles, sometimes you get some, sometimes you don't, but one batch I ordered, the guy says a lot should be showgirl, but like I said, I had to throw some out last night. Oh well, will see.

Made you feel like the proud mama when they were so well behaved right? Of both the self control of the teens and bravery of the babies. Such good girls. Mine are coming along, but there are some feuds to be settled first I think. Particularly the older teens who have graduated out of the cage completely---with the younger teens who go in the cage at night....why are they in their old territory! With that cute little waterer and feeder that used to be theirs? When I let the littler ones out in the morning, it is a stampede for the first bit because the older teens want to let them know they were in there first. If I leave the cage door open the bigger ones go straight inside like they own the cage and won't let the littles back in. Stinkers.

That is the coolest looking thing! Thanks for the link, it would be fun to see what they look like as newborns, I hope some work out for ya! They remind me of a muppet :p

You make it sound so nice!  I also sit under an apple tree!  Really.

I talk with my girls, as I'm sure many do!    Ok Brad, it's great to share treats, but as long as you don't share the beer!  ;)

Ok, I have 8 babies out, and one that is working on it...  That's a lot more than I thought I was going to get.  Took our son to the dr. came back to a lot that just decided to zip and hatch!    :celebrate

The nice part, just had someone call that heard, word of mouth, that I am selling chicks.  Yep, I sold 4 to her, until she comes tomorrow, and sees the choice.  All of these babies are blue, or splash.  I do have black outside, the ones that I just sent off with Red, so she wants one of each color, and maybe two of one color.    :ya   My daughter's friend, so I know where they are going!!   Yaay.

share with you or my girls? lol. i am not one to give that kind of stuff to animals, plus i hear chickens make angry drunks ;)

Brad, I've heard that chickens can be cranky when given drinks, as well. I think mine are enough fun to wrangle when they're sober - best leave that stuff to the humans.

Alright, Showgirls always send me for a shock when I see them, but to be honest, baby Turkens are some of the cutest chicks I have ever seen. I walked into IFA once with my mom and didn't see that there were a bunch of little Turken babies in one of the brooders. My mom's observation was, "Ew, gross." When I looked up to see what she was looking at, I fell in love. Their little toupees are so dang cute! I almost got one.

Hey kimmy, remember how we were talking earlier about the vitamin thing for ailing chicks? I went and got some vitamins the other day for my teens, because I noticed that my EE was dropping her wings a lot. They've been getting vitamin water this week, and both the EE and my GLW that was puffing up are doing sooooo much better! I'm glad I took your recommendation and just gave it to them to be safe. I can tell they're feeling a lot better. How is your chick doing?

Well let's see, I think I will pass on the beer thanks, and I am glad you don't give your chickens the beer..I really didn't think you would, just kidding around. But, do you think they would make grumpy drunks? Or, would the happy chickens just be more happy?

Oh yes, I remember that now...your dad, not your granddad? You tell him that I said he was a stinker for doing that!

I have 9 healthy babies!! I really wasn't expecting that, since I couldn't see in the eggs that well, I know that them being dark usually means a good thing, especially if you have a good air sac, but, I still worry. One baby had gotten to around 2 and half weeks. :( One I'm not sure, didn't open it, it was full of fluid, so guessing it quit a long time ago, the other two I didn't go all the way in to see, because they also had fluid in them but had solid baby. And one died last night after I helped it out. 9 out of 14 put into lock down.
Pictures later. All of them, blues, and a few splashes. NO BLACKS!!

After waiting for the eggs to hatch, long after their due date, I opened them all...Slowly just in case. Most were either dead or unfertile. There were a few still alive but very weak, and could not move in the eggs. So they hadn't even got into the air sac. Sadly they only lived a few hours. I think we had an issue with humidity, but I am not sure.

I actually have one goat due today and one on may 1...The one today is huge, can't wait to see what she has...She had quints last year.
