Well, since it's not my chick, I have extremely limited access to it, maybe from 8am-3:30pm, and then not on the weekend.

I think I'll take off the tape first thing, and at 1:25, when school gets out, I'll see how he's doing, and possibly retape. I don't know. My last attempt at this didn't end well.

awwww Hulksmash! sniff...he had so many fans. For some reason that little guy will always stand out....the name, the hatch, the leg....the sad end. I think it was that cute hulk bandaid! What a sweetie. This one will end better, it will!

nearly all parrots are having trouble in the wild, people steal them from the wild, from there native land and family and pack them like sardines and ship them all over the world

my congo was a wild caught... what they go through is so horrible. cites has slowed the importation of protected animals in cites member nations but it still happens. they were even still importing them into the us in the 80s... look up liniolated parakeets, they are small parrots about the size of a budgie (budgies are always called parakeets) they are not loud, they are funny little clowns that do talk and will cuddle and hide in your hair. or you can go with something like a meyers parrot like i have, they are super fun. forgive me everyone if me talking about parrots bugs you, i can get a little carried away at times lol.

You're not bugging us..you're educating us! This is very interesting. All the different names. These birds are lucky to have you. You are doing a great thing. I don't care what kind of animal it is, if it's being mistreated..it ticks me off. It is so interesting, how throughout the world, there is someone somewhere, that is interested in saving this animal..or that animal. They are lucky that someone out there is ready to care, and give the needed attention. You just so happen to be a bird lover. I know that Speckledhen on here likes to save the unwanted, or even injured chickens. I used to foster and rescue dogs. There is a rescue for many different animals and birds, reptiles, fish,..and there is a person out there ready for that particular animal. Not everyone is able to, or will just look the other way. Then there are those that act on what they care about. Good for you!

Cynthia, I decided a little while ago that at some point (when I have more room) I am going to march myself over to one of the commercial egg farms around here, try very hard not to faint, and ask them if there's any way I could buy a couple of their hens off them. I will then take home my wonderful new, stinky, maltreated hens and fatten them up. I don't really care if they don't lay much or at all for me, nor how old they are. I would just like to rescue a couple of those hard working ladies and give them a good life. I can't look at store bought eggs now without picturing the conditions most of those birds are forced to live in.

Sorry to go off on a rant, there. I'm with Cynthia on this one. I do NOT like animals being mistreated.

So for the past couple of days, I've been keeping a close eye on my two new Icelandics. I'm curious, does anyone know if Icees are always this tiny when they're little? These two remind me of bantams! They are so dainty and so much fun to watch. Anyway, sorry, I jump between subjects a lot. Didja notice?

I have been keeping Sven's vent cleaned up, and Gerti's, too. Gerti does NOT like to be wiped off, by the way. And if you attempt to do so, she will cry and tell you all about it. Sven is such a doll. He falls asleep in my hand very easily and is doing much, much better than he was earlier in the week. He's a napper, for sure, but he has so much more energy and displays a lot more curiosity now. I'm going to need to put the two of them in the main brooder soon. Gerti can nearly jump out of the box they're in, never mind that the side is about five times her height.

So I can't remember if I whined the other night about not being able to work on my run because of a lousy air compressor. Well, I'm working on getting my hands on a different compressor, because I feel so bad that my teens are getting pretty crowded in their apartment. I've been trying to let them range outside for longer periods of time, since they're getting cabin fever. I find it funny how the girls with bigger feet will walk right on top of their sisters like they're not even there. My Welsummer is guilty of always stepping on the others - man, her feet are huge! She's gonna be a big girl, methinks. And today I watched my BO walked right across my GLW while the latter was dust bathing. I'm glad I'm not a chicken. Knowing my luck, I'd be getting stepped on all the time.

You ladies need to be shot for instigating the boss in to hatching these eggs she gathered.

I didn't even get one beer down and she was having me put the coolerbator back together. Oh well whats a guy to do.

Boy, What a Sweet guy I have.

So it is up and running. I will watch it today and put the eggs in tonight. I ended up with 6 cochin and 6 wyandotte eggs....can't wait for some little feathered legs, and teeny tiny babies.

On other news I was told it was about time to put my boys up for sale.....(the baby goats). Didn't realize they were almost 2 weeks...I swear I will do it...Just a few more days? LOL

As far as I know, the other chicks don't have names. They are white leghorn/RIR crosses.


Speaking of blue eggs, I really wish chickens could lay eggs the same color as a robin's. We have a robin's nest in our honeysuckle. I realized it this morning- I'd noticed that there was always a bird in there, so this morning, I decided to look more closely, and sure enough, there was a nest about 6' off the ground. I blindly took a picture, as that's way too high for me to see, and I wanted to see inside. This is what I found.


I know it'll make the birds mad, but I may go out there with my nicer camera and a stool to take a better picture. So beautiful.

Yes, Both of the boys are doing really well, you wouldn't know anything was wrong at the beginning. I need to take care of the horns this weekend. I always dread that.
Wow I would love to find eggs that color. Pretty soon there will be babies crying for food in there.

Red---when I picked up those little chicks I asked Birdguy that because they were so tiny, he said icelandics are a smaller breed, they do not get as big as regular LF, I suppose like Polish---in the middle. They sure make for teensy cute babies!

Sphinx, if chickens laid that color..... I would be in trouble. Nice pics!
