Utah!

Why am I not able to quote this post? Frustrating. Anyway, Cindy I'm sorry about your eggs! Yes, I am really thinking something is up with those chickens. I wonder if some of them are really inbred, or maybe they are lacking something in their diet? Our 5 are perky and happy this morning, but we do have 1 that still is not walking. She lays/sits with her legs almost straight out in front of her and scoots with her bum while flapping her little wings. When she was first hatched, her abdomen was HUGE with the absorbed yolk, and is still fairly large. I'm hoping maybe she just has such a big belly she can't get her legs in the proper place.

@RedIII-I'm so happy to hear your Icelandics are doing well! They were fun to have here for the short time between rides.

So let me tell you my egg nightmare. I really wanted some sizzles and some more true rumpless araucanas. I bought 15 sizzle eggs on BYC. Then I bought a mix of Polish frizzles and araucanas as well. Just enough eggs to fill my bator. The Frizzle Polish lady emails me said she was going to give me a refund because her hens had quit laying. She did so I bought some more eggs from another Araucana breeder. The lady had so many sizzle eggs that she sent me 32 eggs. I hurt my hand badly and ended up in the Er getting stitches and bones set, so I didn't pick up the eggs at the post office on Friday. Saturday morning I was there when they opened standing in line to get my eggs when hubby called. said my eggs had been delivered. I had a couple of errands to run so I didn't go back home. When I got home took a pain pill so I was a bit fuzzy. I opened the eggs and realized that they weren't the araucana eggs The polish frizzle lady felt so bad she sent me 9 polish eggs. Hubby had no way of knowing as these eggs were not expected.. Crap the post office is closed until Tuesday and I have too many eggs for my incubator, I set the eggs I have on Sunday. Cristy from Shadowbrook is going to loan me another incubator. I don't know if the eggs will even be viable as they have been sitting at the post office since Friday and I'm told that Araucanas don't hatch well because of the lethal gene. It is going to be interesting. Then just after my chicks hatch we are takinga 10 day Alaska cruise. I haven't informed my daughter yet that she is chick sitting as I don't know if any of the eggs will hatch. Hand is doing better. it was my left hand and doesn't hurt so much so I'm off codene, Kind of like a comedy of errors. I wasn't even going to do hatching. My hubby sat the incubator at IFA and thought we would have fun. So time will tell if I am successful or have a broken heart.

That is terrible aboutyour hand! I sure hope you recover ok. The eggs of course are better of when incubated quickly, but I have to tell ya i had some in the fridge, I did not know at the time you should not put them in the fridge, and they were in there over a week, and every single one developed. I had 11, 2 quit halfway through, 2 died/drowned upside down at hatch( I did not know to put them air cell tipped side up at the time either) and I got 7 chicks from that batch. And some of them were much older than a week. So cross your fingers, you might be ok :)

I went ahead and used my girft certificate. I ended up getting 1 dozen each Jersey Giant (Black I think), Barred Rock, and Ameraucana (They call them that but I am sure they are Easter Eggers :) ) Red--- I did not get Delawares, you can relax lol I was afraid to for myself as well, I know I would have wanted some. So if anybody wants any of these breeds, about 4 weeks from now, I should have some with any luck :) If any of the EE eggs are super blue though, there might be trouble, I get pretty stingy with blue eggs. I really am about done acquiring, so I thought I would hatch these and sell them for the fun of it, might as well use the gift cert before I lose it! This should be the last batch. Really. No, REALLY!

Good luck on a good hatch, Lisa.

Sundancenbare, what a nightmare!!! Like Lisa said though, I wouldn't be surprised if the eggs do quite well. I sure hope they do. What happened to your hand?

Sundancenbare so sorry! wow what a weekend for you! You watch you will get a hatch like Lisa's. There are some pretty amazing hatches I've heard about on here.

Lisa I am still planning on meeting you on Tuesday and I am happy to deliver any chicks you have or anyones for that matter.

It has been crazy here in southern Utah we have had a house burn down this week in the neighborhood just next to ours and the plane crash that was here on Saturday morning one of the boys that was in that crash lived two houses down from the house that burned. It has not been a happy week around here very sad stuff. Feel so bad for the families.
