Red, loving your pics. Angel and Stevie are getting so big! Serenity is gorgeous. My Ameraucanas from Cynthia are not too red yet, some pink, kind of in the middle. I really thought one of the blacks would be a boy because the size--it is growing much faster, and seems a bit boyish---but really looking at it the comb and the tail all look like they are in line to be a possible pullet. Hoping! The bridges of both blacks nose and combs seem wide, but the color is not red enough to make me worry yet. I keep thinking they are getting "about that age" where it will rear its head really soon if they are going to go red. I look every single morning, to see if it has turned red overnight! So far so good, no positive roosters YET.....

It's been fun to see what colors come in on Serah. She's one of the girls that will be staying here with my mom, no matter where the others go. I'm glad that my mom will be able to have her to watch in the yard.

Yep, it seems like only a few weeks ago that the chicks I got from you were little fluffballs. They're growing so fast, it seems. I love having them here. That's good to hear that your Amer's are still looking girlish, too............dun dun DUNNN (sorry, couldn't help myself)

Oh Sphinx, I got to hear one of those cockerels I got from you crow today. Or rather, he tried to crow. It was the funniest crow I've ever heard, poor guy. He's still learning. It sounded less like "Cock-a-doodle-doo" and more like, "Haaack".

Sphinx, I think you asked about MIB3....yes, it was very good. I even shed a couple tears towards the end! A must-see.
LOVING everyone's pics! The Exchequers are so fun looking, I'm putting them on my list for the future. Also the speckled Sussex. So pretty.

Chick 4-Raji. I think she's a she. Her bum is still so huge! This is the chick that couldn't walk the first day or two. She looks silver laced to me.



The Cochin-wing feathers coming in say girl, but I'm not willing to bet on that quite yet. Looks like she may be a buff columbian color?

Sasha, what darling pictures..love that bantam.. You will have to keep posting pictures of that one for sure!

I'm thinking one of the ones you say looks like a girl, is looking like a boy to me. # 4. I'm just going by the stubby wing. If it's a SLW, can't go by that nasal area yet. I also think your question chick is a boy. Sorry, if you're not wanting roos..but, I could be wrong..been there done that before!

Loving the color of that cochin too!! Very pretty.

kid~how old is you BO? If these are babies, just tape the toe straight for a couple of days, they straighten out pretty easily when they are young. Up to about 5 days it's pretty easy, some can be done just past a week. It's according to how rubbery and loose they still are.

Ok, for my news. Went to bed last night, hoping to see some pips from my ruth eggs...the pretty dark Wellies. And, I have two more Exchequers in there. Nothing. I'm thinking, nooo..remember that power outage? I didn't have a plug for that bator, just had to put it in the car, in the heat. The temp got down into the high 70's. I knew these were alive, saw some pretty nice air sacs in them, and of course, you can see the baby move in the white Exchequer eggs. Woke up to a baby Wellie!

Forget the pip..just wake up to a baby! I have another Wellie pipped, and one of the Exchequers. Have worried over the Exchequers, because they are such small eggs. At least one is pipped.
Now, I can go to my little sis's activity. I have a mentally handicapped sister living in Provo. This is a big fun activity day..they get medals for winning certain contests..racing, backetball, pie eating contest..which btw. we can particapate in as well, which I did last year, but don't think I will do that again. Lisa..got a big kick out of seeing me with my face all messy! She's a sweetheart. My personal favorite, is the arm wrestling. You should see these kid's faces, they try sooo hard. I say kids, when most of them are nearing their 40's or are over. She is over.
Busy fun day, coming up. Not sure Kirk is going to get many of these Wellies. I want to keep a couple to watch for myself. He can have what's left from the next hatch of Wellies coming up. Those eggs are a lot lighter, and less speckled. I'm thinking there are a lot of pullet eggs in there, but they are still very large!

We went to Thanksgiving Point Farm Country on Saturday and now my husband wants a frizzle. We won't really be getting one but they are pretty darn cute.

I have a question as well. I got a BLRW from Rebecca on 5/18, she is a year old but hasn't laid here yet. I know that stress can affect them and we did just move her AND she is growing feathers back on her back because of too much rooster loving, but how long should it be before she lays?

That is a while. I have only had a few come to me that have had the roosters after them. They laid sooner than that. She isn't broody is she? Staying in a next box? Maybe she has been, and you are thinking she is just scared, and hanging back? I would be calling Rebecca and letting her know. Maybe you got an older girl than she thought you were getting. Two weeks is a while, but I've heard it happening. She could lay you an egg today! You just never know, but I wouldn't get too far into the next week without calling her if she hasn't laid yet. Just me though!

Kimmy, I had a hen that took a while on laying after we got her. She was probably at least a year old, but she was so stressed when we got her, it was several months before we saw an egg. And she wasn't in the best of health when she first arrived, either. She was pretty scrawny and missing some feathers. Once she started laying, though, she was a pretty faithful layer

I think it might be an extreme case, but it does happen.

I got my lavender ameraucana and silkie hatching eggs this morning!

When I took an adult hen in, she laid an egg or two the first week, and then nothing for a month.
