Utah!

Oh Sasha, those babies are soooooo cute! I hope that nicked vessel baby hatches. It sounds like it was a little too anxious, and isn't quite ready yet. Really fascinating on vent sexing. I'm wondering if it's really hard on chickens, because I would imagine more people on this board would do it if it were more feasible.

Red, I felt like I had to give the giver of the gift chicken first right of refusal, and she did take her back.

Your baby ducks are so cute. Thanks all on my baby. She is a keeper. The funny thing is my whole family has blue eyes. Same with my BIL. My hubby is the only person with brown eyes. So are kids are the only browns in my family. They are not your normal brown either. My Tarahs eyes look almost like amber. My Gideon his are half brown half blue grey. And Elsies are still changing. There eyes keep on changing till they are five.

Baby Duck feet!! Baby duck beaks! Baby Ducks sleeping! Love the picture of the two together in the fourth picture. They look like little bath tub baby duck toys. Adorable!

Thinking, that my SS is the one laying. She was going balistic wanting out of the coop! Going back and forth band and forth along the fence. When she knew she wasn't getting out, she went into the nest boxes. (makes me wonder how many she has laid in the yard) My sexlink went bonkers because she doesn't like to lay in a nest box if anyone else is in it..so she was yelling at the SS. So the SS got down. My goodness, silly birds, with all those nest boxes. Love your pictures Lisa with them all in there. I had some like that back in the past, better than them making noise until one is done so she can go into the nest, and it's usually the same nest box.

Aaaack!!! I may explode from cuteness overload! Cute little girl with a sleepy chicken on her shoulder, a supersweet adorable baby with a flower on her head, fuzzy baby goat and now duckies! Oh my gosh, I just love the little spotted webbed feet on the chocolate and when I got to the one on its stomach with it's little webbed feet sticking out the back I just about broke my smiler! Whew.......I think I need to go lay down

Sasha, love the ducklings! That first little guy has a really neat coloration, but they're all very sweet looking.

Kidasoto - My eyes are a gold brown like that, too! My mom has brown eyes, but my dad is green eyed (no pun intended) Somehow, my brother and I both ended up with unusual light brown eyes. I like it. I know, kind of off subject, but hey.

Where do you live?
Hi Jack...
I hope it is okay to post this here in the "Utah!" thread. If not I will take the verbal spanking.

I seemed to have failed in my choices at the pullet tank and now have two cockerels I need to be rid of.

They are approximately 2 month old bantams and very handsome lads. However, since I live in town I cannot have them letting the neighbors know that the sun is around.

Anyway, if anyone would like them or knows of someone that could take them or has any ideas, I (they) would be very appreciative.

Thanks!!!!

Handsome fellas, huh.

Well, if we're going to go off subject with eye color, here I go! (this is one of my favorite things) In my family growing up, each person's eyes were slightly different. My dad and sister both had brown, but different shades of brown. I actually made a "eye color family tree" for both my family growing up and my little family now. If you want to see it, you can go to this link. The top chart is my parents and sibs, bottom chart my little family: http://acaptiveaudience.blogspot.com/search?q=eye+color

Thanks everyone for the nice comments on our cute ducklings. :) I had to help the last 3 out this morning. Humidity had dropped to 69% over night and the 2 pipped eggs were shrink-wrapped. I zipped their shells and pulled back some of the membrane and encouraged them to do the rest. They both pushed out of the shells readily. One of the babies had been working so hard all night to get out of the shell, the top of her poor little bill is raw! :( She (yes, she!) made happy noises the entire time I was working on flaking her shell. They are both black & white babies. The nicked baby had a leg sticking out this morning, but was so stuck. I started working to free her (?) and could immediately see why should couldn't free herself....she was encased in about 1/8" goo. It looked like nasty, drying jello. There wasn't any blood this time, thank goodness, but she still had some yolk that wasn't absorbed. It readily detached from the umbilical cord, but it started bleeding. I held that baby in my hands for about an hour, putting light pressure on the yolk/abdomen. The bleeding had stopped long enough for me to be satisfied so I put her in a little box on her own in the brooder. That was a few hour ago, and she's mostly dried off and doing ok. Thinking maybe lavender in color.
The upside down baby couldn't hold it's head up yesterday, but this morning she's holding her head up and looking around happily. Quite the little sweetie. Think she might have splayed legs, but just in the last few hours she seems to be improving, so it's a wait and see game for another day or so. I like the babies to do as much on their own as possible. :) Build those muscles.
I'll post pictures in a few. :D

Oh! Eye color~my dad has brown eyes, my mom has blue. I'm the only girl of 4 kids, and the only one that has brown eyes. 2 of my brothers have blue, one has greenish-hazel. Interesting. :)

2nd picture is of the 2 black babies I helped this morning

This is the gooey baby/yolk baby
unabsorbed yolk

Our hatch of 8 beautiful Ancona ducklings. :) What a great rate! 9 into lockdown, 8 hatched (with some help) Shipped eggs....I'm very pleased.
