Utah!

get some ivy, that stuff grows like crazy! just dont let it grow on your house, it will do tons of damage... i also love vinca and it gets beautiful purple flowers

Well said on the ivy. We've got both English ivy and Boston ivy on our house. We have to rip the Boston ivy off of our chimney every so often, or it demolishes it. I'm still waiting for those two plants to intersect so that I can see them fight

Trailing Myrtle is also an aggressive ground cover, but it has nice purple flowers when it blooms. And my chicks love foraging in that stuff. Bugs galore.

I don't want anything that climbs; I have rosebushes in that same bed. Bishops weed is definitely possible, I could get a start from my parents or grandmother. Then we could have mint v. bishops weed, the ultimate smackdown!

What can I say? I'm weak. Meet Thing 1 and Thing 2.

They were being picked on, so their topknots, necks and backs are a bit scraggly.

so harramin is on fire again :( i feel so bad for them all. lots of homes are burning. lots of livestock are in trouble too. its so sad. last time it burned we had ash dropping on our house like it was a snow storm. we need a state wide ban on fireworks this year. i am a big fan of fireworks and all but this is so bad this year i am upset people risk it! its just so sad :(

You said it for this year a total ban would be a good idea. W e have been planing for any option if we ever have to leave here. even transportation of the chickens. has been interesting talk. We wish everyone lots of luck this year.

Yay for the cute little duckies! Very cute!
Lisa your chickens nesting in the same boxes is hysterical !
Cynthia yay for the new egg layer!
Daloorashens so sad to hear about your little chick. Sad day.
Sphinx those Polish are a beautiful color! I love them. Good find.
So so sad about the fires. Wish everyone would not do fireworks this year. Everything and everywhere is just so dry. I really feel for the families that have lost homes and animals.

My husband and I have decided, no fireworks this year I hope the others around us that shoot off the big ones decide the same thing. We have had ash falling on us for three days now. It's weird how when the night comes, the smoke is less, and no ash, until around 2 in the afternoon until around 7 or 8. Guessing it's the way the wind is blowing. It sure is causing havoc on our eyes, nose, and throats.
My poor little New Hampshire was in the nest box to lay, just panting so hard. She got out. No egg. She went in and out about three different times that I saw. She finally laid her egg. This is so miserable for our animals that are outside too. My Golden seems to be doing ok. Had him groomed today. He has hot spots that I've been working on..had the gal do a medicated shampoo for him. She really got his under coat cleaned out. He looks happier without all of that coat. It's supposed to be up to 100 on Sunday. :(

Holy cow.. that sounds pretty crazy with the ash falling on your houses, yikes!! Sounds like it would be appropriate to severly limit/decrease fireworks... I know my kids would be sad if they couldn't do the little ones in the driveway, but those ones that can go overheard are WAY too high risk!!

Awwww it was Red who said Sussex! I thought it was Sasha

So I won the guessing ! Hooray lol no roosters pleeeez!
Daloorashens, poor EE baby so sorry to hear that. Especially that one, I was secretly hoping to talk you into selling me one if they were both girls. These things happen, not a way to predict that! I will bring you three cuties to make you smile again.
I am in lurking mode for the most part this weekend guys. So much to do before we leave. Mostly trying to get the flower beds and garden weeded here before we go, it is bad out there. The Sedum has taken over, it looks like ground cover. So off I go.....have a great weekend everybody!
It WAS me that said the SS....but I guess it was the NH after all. :)
I found two eggs in the barn tonight. The neighbor's chickens sometimes come and lay in random places in our pasture, but now they are somehow getting into our old barn and laying. It's kinda fun. :)

Sad news from the home front....we lost one of the black and white girls that was shrink wrapped. :( She had been doing great this morning, but this afternoon faded very quickly. It's so sad! I feel terribly for Sierra. This is her first death among all the ducklings she's raised this year.
The good news is, goopy baby's yolk is 99% absorbed! Yay! He's got a big, round head, so Sierra is calling him Pumpkin. :) His feet are a little curled in but again, waiting to see if they will correct at all on their own over the next day or so.
Upside Down Pipper is doing so well! She's walking upright most of the time now, and her splayed legs don't spread as far and as often now. Hopefully more progress by tomorrow morning so I don't need to splint. Her bill is so much smaller than everyone else's, and I think it's because it was stunted from being crammed in the narrow end of the egg.
Here's a pic from just a few mins ago. Bed time!
