Utah!

Ok, I'm confused. I thought she laid this more red brown of an egg yesterday. All I've been getting are the red brown colored ones. Maybe the NH is laying big, small, big small for a while..and this girl will lay this color. I put the two together for comparison..like I said, nothing in my egg cartons even close to this color, so, I just may have watched her lay for the first time, when I was thinking she was laying because I would see her jump up to the nest boxes, then down. Just checking them out I guess.

She was in that nest box for a long time..I kept checking out the window to see if she was out and
about, but she wasn't for a long time, and while I was watching her, she was just talkin up a storm,
telling me all about it. This is what I found in her nest box, and there weren't any other eggs in the
others.

Her egg on the left, what I thought she laid yesterday on the right. What? Will see if I get any more
of the lighter ones, I will know for sure who's it is! Glad I caught her in the nest box.

Great pictures Iain! Your little grey looks so sweet. I used to have a Toulouse and I am particularly fond of that breed. I am so glad that you are helping her.

I used to have a Toulouse goose named Pate and I really loved her. Because she was an only goose, and was probably confused as to what she was, when it came time for her to start laying eggs she took my female golden retriever Lacy for a mate. Lacy wasn't ready for that kind of committment and just wanted to be friends but Pate was just certain that they were made for each other and layed eggs so that they could start a family. The trouble was, when it came time for her to get off the eggs and go eat and stretch her legs she just couldn't convince Lacy to sit on them for her. She would go get the dog and lead her back to the nest over and over but Lacy just wouldn't get the point and sit on it. She was happy to follow her but she just didn't understand this new and somewhat pointless game that the goose was determined to play.
Eventually I had to move and couldn't take her with me so I gave her to a friend who had a male goose who had lost his mate and was lonely. I thought it would be the perfect home for her, and it was, just not in the way I expected. When she got there the male was thrilled. He spent a lot of time trying to woo her and convince her that he was the man for her but alas, it was not in the cards. She had decided early on in life that 4 legged animals made the perfect mates and in her quest to replace Lacy the dog she spotted my friend's goat (Louie) who appeared to be currently unattached and without a wife. They hit it off splendidly and soon were spending all of their time together. They would take long walks and every they day would go down the dirt road to visit the neighbor dogs. When they got there she honk at them through the fence and then she and the goat would turn around walk home together. They were very happy and eventually decided to start a family. Unfortunately, Louie turned out to be about as good of a father as my golden retriever and would not sit on the nest either. They never were able to have children but she loved him anyway.

As weird as it sounds, that really did happen. I guess she imprinted on the dog and never was right after that. Great goose though

Enter this in a writing contest on here somewhere. They have a lot of writing contests!

Delaware on the left, Wheaten cockerel on the right... he is sure getting pretty!!

One of the FBCM's from Cynthia in the front, another Delaware on the left, wheaten on the right, blue wheaten and Delaware in the background

Dalooras..was this boy the smaller one that I was guessing was a boy?? :)

The sky burst in a sudden downpour. It was really raining down hard in a split second, soaking my chickens. Got myself soaked as well. I brought the delaware chick I got from Lisa in to dry him? (going on barred tail feathers?) off. Snapped a quick photo with my webcam on my laptop. He's got his feathers all poofed out. Quite the cutie! Loves pecking at my toes.

Cute Joy, it just started to rain hard here a while ago too..went out to close the young ones door, then looked up..here's what we saw!

This rainbow went from end to end..a real pretty full one

There was another one started at the right, can't see it too well in the picture. See the mountain, just barely
in the back ground..oh this rain is sooo welcomed. :)

Joy, I'm still thinking girl on that Delaware. If the face gets very pink in the next month or so, though, you could be right - could be a boy. Here are a couple pictures of my Ellie to compare with. Mind you, she's a little bit older here than Lola, and she's probably from a different strain (Ideal Poultry)

HI Everyone! Just a quick note then we're off and running. :)
We picked up Howard's 20 year old daughter from the airport late on the 4th, and dragged her all over Cache valley yesterday. Today we're all headed down to Richfield for the Trexler Family reunion this weekend. We'll be meeting up with Cynthia on Sunday, and Red, I need to get with you, too! I'll have a special delivery for ya. ;)
We were going to do Mt. Timpanogous (sp?) cave today, but as of yesterday, American Fork Canyon was closed. I'll call again this morning on our way through, but I'm not too hopeful it'll be reopened already. The rain yesterday was sure great, though!
We are also stopping at a farm in Kaysville on our way through today. Rocco, the Polish roo, has a new home, so we'll drop him off there. Yippy!

Our black cuckoo polish we got from Lisa (who got him from Auntie Hattie) looks VERY roo-ish today. :( Man! I already have a baby polish I think is a roo, and I was going to get the frizzle polish from Lisa if it's a roo....got some thinking to do.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Drive Careful you little cutie! See ya soon!

I should give you a call on Sunday. In the morning, but not too early. Find out about what time you think you will be in this area.
