you know what?  I read that she didn't want any silkies, the very night you were going to give her the showgirl..all I could think was, well, it isn't a silkie, it's a showgirl.  he he...and I had to remember that she had said, if any of those three hatched, she would want one, so, I wasn't too worried.  Just a bit. But this one is so pretty.
 Now, I have a white silkie I need to place.  She is a silkie, not a showgirl.  They are pretty, the whites. 
 Sasha, this isn't the white you saw out there the other day, I am keeping that one unless she decides to crow.  Better not!

Cynthia, Sasha, Moriah......I had decided showgirls would be awesome haha I never considered them "silkies", even though they have silkie in them.......I read somewhere that they were not crazy broody and laid better than silkies, must be the turken genes So it is all good, exactly what I wanted!

My Australorp is laying right now, has been trying all morning, throwing a fit, I had to put my other layers out in the yard because they were bagawking at her and picking at her in the nest. Now she has some peace and quiet, hopefully it will happen!

Got back from Idaho on Sunday but have been too busy to post anything. My coop needed a good cleaning for one thing!

MoriahQuilts I need to thank you for some wonderful advice you gave to me about my mother having knee surgery. We did get her in a really nice rehabilitation center. I honestly don't know what we would have done if she didn't go there. She had both her knees done at the same time. She is 86 years old and we really thought we could just take care of her but once she got out of surgery we knew we were in trouble because she was in so much pain. She told me to thank you for telling me to check into rehabs. She realized she really needed the help and is so grateful to be there. The place we got her into was quite new and everything is so nice there. We were told if we would have taken her home and then decided we were going to put her in one of the rehabilitation centers insurance would not have paid for it. She needed to go straight from the hospital for insurance to cover it. So you can see how thankful we are to you.

I'm also so sorry to hear about your friend. It is such a tragic thing to have happen.

So I was able to meet Happy2bhere and her mother! Happy you are the sweetest most gentle women I could have stayed and talked for hours with you. I am really loving the people I am getting to know through BYC. You guys are the best of people! Okay so let me tell you first of all those sweet Orphingtons I spent 24 hours with are the most docile birds ever. They let me pet them and love them and to top it off I drove with no cover over them and they never once tired to get out. They are beautiful birds and I almost kept driving right on past Happys place but my conscience wouldn't let me.

Birdguy tired to get me to take some but I just couldn't do it. To much going on to take on more chickens right now. So maybe next time but he did send me home with something......hahahahahahaha oh man I am so addicted. That's all I'll say for now.

So everyone that got chicks and chickens that were delivered by me are they all doing all right??? I always worry about that.

Sasha and TeeRex sorry I missed seeing you coming back I ended up coming back a day early and I knew you guys would just be getting home from your trip. I still would love to come see your place on my next trip. I'm happy all your animals and home were ok when you got back.

Lisa I have a question for you. You know how I took 2 of your Wheaten/blue wheaten Ameraucanas to my sister. Well could you help us decide if she has a rooster or not? We are thinking she might have one. Here are the pictures.

Oh they are beautiful! The darker one definitely looks like a pullet. The lighter one looks like a boy....the comb looks like a boy...I have seen the blue and black (wheaten) girls and boys now, but have had no splashes yet......but that looks like it was described to me......is it bluer than it looks in the pic? or is it more tan/ivory colored? I would guess splash roo. If you wanted you could post this in the Idaho thread, to pawtraitart and ask her. She knows her stuff! She is on there frequently. That is what I would do. If it is more blue it could be a blue wheaten roo, if it is really light it could be a splash wheaten roo. It is always hard to tell from pics to be sure It sure is neat to see how different they all turned out, they were so identical as babies.

I lost a chicken today. I am devastated. Birdy was a blue Americana and my only blue egg layer. She laid an egg yesterday so she wasn't egg bound. She was fine last night on the roost with everyone else but dead on the coop floor this morning. I have frozen bottles in their water and the coop is open on both ends with ventilation on top. I am totally bummed. She hadn't been dead to long when I found her. I put the sizzles and auracanas in the outside run with a bulb in the coop for warmth at night, They did just fine. Right now I have the sprinkler going in the chicken yard and decided to let the chickens free range in the yard so they can maybe find a cooler place. There is lot of shade in the run but there is shaded cement in the yard so they may be cooler. Still makes me feel really bad. I understand about depression as I have been treated for it for years. The Dr. Wanted me to find an outside hobby, hence the chickens. They do help me alot. Iput my eggs in lockdown they are due Thursday. I am not sure that any will hatch because of the nessed up humidity while I was gone. Time will tell i guess. None of these eggs were candled except the sizzles. The eggs are too dark and shells too thick. I ordered a high intensity candler but I don't think it will get here before hatch date. With the heat outside what %humidity would be best at this point? I have it at 60%

Thanks Lisa. Good thinking I will tell my sister to post the pictures on the Idaho thread. She has been having a hard time figuring how to post things but if she can't do it I will for her. Mostly she was just wondering if she had a roo. Which it looks like she does.

Sundance I'm so so sorry about your chicken. I have been out checking my chickens every hour today we are going to get to 110 degrees today. I'm worried about my broodies. They picked the worst time of the year to sit on eggs! I have a frozen liter bottle by them and I'm hoping that helps.
Sorry I can't help you with the humidity question I know someone else on here can though. Cynthia had me keep my eggs at 60 but that was a hova bator incubator.

Sasha - Thank you. I agreed its a time when people's hearts fail them.

Birdman - I'm glad you are doing well. Summers are easier for me, and being outside, and around animals. I was talking to my mom who had depression always, and severely, and she told me it was the worst for her when she was "my age". Great, not. I'm hoping to stay on top of it too. Good to hear that others can.

Aunt Hattie - I'm so glad you found good care for your mom. Its such a weight off to know are mommies are in good hands.
I can't judge your light colored Amer by the comb, I'm not good at that yet, but look at those shoulders!! They are like football shoulder-pads. And your PC in the background is darling!

Sorry about your hen. Chickens are an emotional boost - until that happens. I've nursed some that were sick, but not yet had one just die out of the blue. I hope you are able to figure out what happenned so you don't worry about the others. Today is the first time I've had to work through the heat of the day and I'm not home to check on them... Now I'm worried, and I can't do anything about it.

I rehomed three "just hatched" babies to a gal who wanted to put them under her broody hen before she wore herself out on her gold balls. I hope they are doing well today.

And Noooooo I am not returning with Turkeys. No. I have ruled these out until next year, then I am re-visiting the idea......hehe

I just called Vegas and the odds are definitely leaning towards a minimum of one turkey returning to Cache Valley!!!.... I just need to figure out which one is a Tom so you have some yard candy next Spring....

Marking chicks. How does everyone do it? If any of mine hatch I need to be able to see who hatched out of what eggs? I'vr seen leg bands but am not sure they work with chicks. I don't mran to hog the list today but things just keep coming up
