Utah!

Looks like I ~ may ~ get one showgirl. Glad it's a showgirl. There were two showgirls, and two silkies..this showgirl is crying, so that's a good sign. One had just one eye and a really crossed beak...again! What's up with that? That has happened twice lately with these, and I've only had it once before with all of the other LF chicks I've hatched. Something you don't forget! I can't tell, while the baby is still wet, thinking it's a buff..but I can see a bow tie! That makes me happy. I prefer the muff and bowtie both, but this will be cute too. I know I will be watching her all night. Crossing fingers. No more hatching showgirls for a long time! Too sad to see them get this far and not make it.

Lisa, if you haven't hatched the D'Uccles, you have to. They are cuties. Just handle the ones you like best.. a lot, and it will probably love you. Are you still holding the showgirl a lot? My blue splash girl is sweeter than my white silkie. I call my white, Cotton. She looks like a cotton ball. Getting very pretty.

Spinx, you can still click on here and get a larger pic..but when I posted the eggs in the carton to show the gal that they got here safe and sound, when I clicked on it there..it blew up to full screen size. Very nice. Clicking here still gives us the same large size, but not as large as what we were doing when we posted originally.
Oh well, I chose med. size for these pictures. We can still go large.

Red! You get your tools back! That's great!

Kidasoto - How old are your chickens? I did that with my 3 month old Cochin and gradually started letting her out with my other chickens a few hours at a time during the day while I could watch her. She had places she could run and hide so that helped. Plus you will be adding more than one so that will be so much better. It is a gradual process. Chickens can be so mean. When they are establishing the new pecking order. Are your birds still quite small? For me it really depends on their age and how big they are before I would let them in full time around other big chickens. There are others who would be of better help to you I'm sure. I only have a few chickens but wanted to give you some help anyway.

Pretty eggs Cynthia!

Red good news on the tools being found!! You guys are turning the corner. Bad luck is behind you now!

Yikes Cynthia remind me to never try to hatch showgirls! Sorry about the bad hatches. I hope your little one makes it. It will be fun to have a buff colored one.

I candled the eggs last night that my little broody got off of for awhile. I don't know how long she was off of them but they were both fine.

So happy.

They are about 6 weeks old. Is that to early to start taking them out? They arent in with the big ones. Just next to their run in a wire dog crate. The older ones havent even started laying yet.

Kidasoto, this is just my experience, but I haven't been able to mix younger chicks with adult-sized chickens until they're at least three months old.

Sphinx, I forgot to mention earlier, but thank you for the pointer on turkeys being mixed with chickens. This little guy is in with the chicks because I'm worried he's still too small to be out in Tooele with bigger birds, away from any kind of heater. I think I'll try and keep him at my house for at least a couple of weeks before sending him to live with The Ninja (Spanish Black poult) He seems healthy thus far, but I'll keep an eye on him, for sure.

:barnie Why does CAL Ranch have Summer Chick Days!?!!! I went yesterday to buy some Bedding to clean my coop and there they were. TONS of ducks, turkeys, chicks.... :rant I had to resist. But it was so hard -_-

Hi Guys! We got our first double yolk egg this week. Was making an omelet and found the double.

I think it was Bertie's egg. She has been laying the largest of all the eggs. Hers are easy to pick out because they have the light tan shell even though she is a BSL. So all the sex-links are laying except Pearl. They are all hatch-mates but guess she isn't ready to give in. But she checked out the nest box today so maybe next week she will finally lay an egg! Hope everyone is better. Sundancebare, pneumonia is NOT fun....take care of yourself! I finally got the pneumonia vaccination. Haven't had any problems for three years since I got it. Usually I'd have one episode a year. Have a great week, cm

Honestly, I could see this hanging on my wall as an art print. Love those shades of green!

How are the showgirls doing, by the by?

Sundancen, are you allowed to have baked goodies in there? (Do you like baked goodies? lol) I may just slip over to see you and bring some contraband with me. Hospitals are so not fun to be stuck in.

Anyone want to come storm the hospital with me? It'd be tonight or tomorrow morning.

Hey, guess what? They found the tools that were in our truck when it was stolen! So my boyfriend gets his tools back! Yaaaay

I can have anything I want I'd love to have a visit. Bored out of my mind, So glad your tools were found
