Utah!

Love the chicks. I'll be in the exhibition ring on the first day around 4pm to prep my chickens but if you want to see the judging it starts at 6pm. My fancy show chickens will look bomb and all win hopefully, but I'm taking a risk with my layers (they might be judging who is actually the best layer - mine just have the best ability and composition(show chickens - not layers)).

So what do you do to prep for show? I am showing at our Salt Lake County fair starting Aug 8, I am showing two cochins, a turkin, A frzzled cochin, and my Auracona, I was going to give them a bath and I have them on a Special supplement to make their feathers really shiny. Anything else? BTW I vaccinate all my chicks for mareks when they are born

Cynthia, so sorry about the olive eggs

How disappointing.

Whittni, I agree with Sphinx. Please be sure to take pictures! I wish I was a lot closer. I'd so come to the fair and see your birds

Haha hey Birdman, I guess your SPR took what I said to heart about you needing more chickens

Let me know if you want a few fertile eggs to put under her. I'll be sure to collect a few from my Marans.

So, I got a good look at the mystery hen. (Drum roll, please)

A Buff Orp! And a very sweet girl, too. She wasn't so keen on being held (see the little stink eye?) but she was fine with coming right up to my boyfriend and I, and even letting me pet her and give her some scratch in my hand. I haven't found bugs on her yet, but I think we'll be treating her, just to be safe. Assuming she stays. I'm going to check KSL and see if anyone has lost a hen in that area, and my boyfriend is going to ask around. I know how lousy it is to lose a chicken. If no one claims her, we'll be happy to keep her. She's kind of scrawny under all that fluff, and a bit dirty, even for a chicken, but she's a sweetheart. It doesn't look like she's laying right now. My boyfriend thinks it could be that she's an older hen, and I think it could be due to poor nutrition. We've dubbed her Goldie for the time being.

Oh yes, and she loves cuddling up to my rooster. He was making the funniest little "I'm happy but not quite sure what to think of this" noises tonight.

See Sphinx? NOT photogenic. Bleh................

Is that you holding her? She is really cute. My hubby has gone quail crazy. He has caught the hatching bug. Yesterday he bought 2 mountain quail, 150 bob white eggs 10 valley eggs, 20 Couternix eggs, I'm going to have to borrow an incubator

Sundance--_Whoa! Ed has gone quail crazy, that is too funny!
Red, you look adorable as always. Stop saying you are not photogenic or I am going to post some more of you.....and that chicken is cute. I am glad she found you :)
Cynthia, that is awful about your olive eggs. Especially it is awful when you pay so much for shipped eggs!
Sphinx, is Thing 2 hanging in there ok?
Whittni good luck at the show!

Cynthia, I have a 3 month old 2nd generation Olive Egger (from QCU!). It will lay dark dark olive, or a chance dark brown like the Marans. Big Eggs. I would love to give her to you.....if you want her? I have got enough of the olive eggers! And I am going to re-home this one. I just need to get her down there to you. Let me know if you want her, it is a girl for sure, and really pretty. Looks just like the Marans, Black, with reddish coming in on neck, feathered shanks. I can send a pic if you want :)

Yep, that's me, in all my chicken nut glory! I always look tired...........maybe it's because I AM tired

You're showing birds at the fair?! Woohoo! I'm so going to stop by and see you. My boyfriend and I are planning on going to the fair. I haven't been in years, and I'm dying to see some of the stuff there. Way funny that your DH has caught the quail bug. I love it when I can hear them calling around here.

oops, missed birdman and cynthia's posts...

Good luck with the broody?? hen , sheesh, how dare she??

Cynthia, sorry about the eggs... that's really disappointing... funny how things like that go, I have two OE's, not on purpose, and a 3rd that will be laying within the next little while... I'm hoping for a nice chocolate egg... eager to see what my Marans BSL will lay, and of course, it will be quite some time before those FBCM's will lay... Speaking of... those 2 FBCM's I got from you?? Both pullets=) YAY!!

Both girls??! Oh, I'm so happy for you!

I did get two more in my winning eggs, which go into lock down tomorrow. I think sundance wanted those. Well, one wasn't viable, and the seller told me the maran eggs were iffy, but that one left is alive as can be! I hope it makes it through lock down.

There are some really nice sellers on BYC. I wrote her and told her about my olive eggs. I got on the computer this morning, and she had refunded me the whole price! I got into BYC, and she said she had worried about the heat too. Bless her heart. I really want to try again with her come cooler weather.

Cynthia, glad that seller is taking good care of you. I appreciate it when people care about their customers like that, and not just the profit they might get.

This is all making me think of blonde EE you sold me a little while back. She's the one that's supposed to be an OE - dad was a BO. I'm getting very excited to see what color of egg she ends up laying when she's bigger. She's so sweet. I love having her around. Love her beard!

I have some chicks that hatched out of beautiful huge Olive eggs. Let me know if you want one. I also have some frizzled Americanas that hatched out of big pretty blue eggs if anyone wants those and of course I have the sizzles

Were they hatched from the true olive color..really olive. Like a green olive? lol...I'm picky now about my green. Those eggs I got from that gal were so pretty. Just the color I wanted. If you think the chicks are girls..can you take pictures?

I was thinking the same thing about red! How cute is she??!
