I hope the showgirl is a girl, and that she doesn't get into pecking hard! What a little stink! My Cotton, my white Silkie, trys to be bossy with the others in that pen, she will stand up tall over the other chick, give it the stink eye, then they both walk off. The worst she's done so far is turn and jump at them. I don't mind that at all, they just know, stay away from her..she's up there on that totem pole. I have found, if another chicken won't "run" from a bossy chicken, then they do all right.
Yes, I can meet someone in Orem. Winco!![]()
Red fun picture. You're such a cute tiny little thing! Thanks for posting a picture. Love the BO. Lucky!
Ok so here are the last two. The little Maran was the last to hatch.
Oh and I forgot to show you the other mystery chick that hatched.
My poor little white Silkie is still trying to hatch hers. She is sitting on two eggs. I'll wait one or two more days but then try and get her to stop being broody.
thank you for the offerCynthia, so sorry about the olive eggsHow disappointing.
Whittni, I agree with Sphinx. Please be sure to take pictures! I wish I was a lot closer. I'd so come to the fair and see your birds![]()
Haha hey Birdman, I guess your SPR took what I said to heart about you needing more chickensLet me know if you want a few fertile eggs to put under her. I'll be sure to collect a few from my Marans.
So, I got a good look at the mystery hen. (Drum roll, please)
A Buff Orp! And a very sweet girl, too. She wasn't so keen on being held (see the little stink eye?) but she was fine with coming right up to my boyfriend and I, and even letting me pet her and give her some scratch in my hand. I haven't found bugs on her yet, but I think we'll be treating her, just to be safe. Assuming she stays. I'm going to check KSL and see if anyone has lost a hen in that area, and my boyfriend is going to ask around. I know how lousy it is to lose a chicken. If no one claims her, we'll be happy to keep her. She's kind of scrawny under all that fluff, and a bit dirty, even for a chicken, but she's a sweetheart. It doesn't look like she's laying right now. My boyfriend thinks it could be that she's an older hen, and I think it could be due to poor nutrition. We've dubbed her Goldie for the time being.
Oh yes, and she loves cuddling up to my rooster. He was making the funniest little "I'm happy but not quite sure what to think of this" noises tonight.
See Sphinx? NOT photogenic. Bleh................
Over the last few days we've caught a few of the ladies checking out the nesting boxes.Hopefully this is a sign of impending fresh eggs! Today it was our Welsummer in there. I am so excited to see what color each of them lay!![]()
