Utah!

Sundance, I lost my marbles a while ago. Thankfully, I got more! Very cute baby pictures.

gamebirds, great color on those eggs! Woohoo!

Hey hey, guess what? Another dog got into the yard. Fortunately, the only bird outside of the run was my EE roo, and he high-tailed it into the neighbor's yard to hide..........at the other end of the block. He wanted to go in the run with the ladies after that. Can't say as I blame him.

It looks like we're keeping the stray BO that wandered into the yard. My BF talked to some neighbors today who caught her and penned her for a couple of days, but then had her escape from them. They're not sure where she came from.

Oh, Sundance, those babies are gorgeous. I'm getting a huge kick out of your chickens and trains in the dish. Oh no on your sizzle crowing! I've noticed at the fair that many of the animals are for sale. Maybe you'll get a buyer there?

I keep my marbles in a bag in my car so I know where they're at. True story.

Gamebirds, those eggs are so pretty. Love them.

Cynthia, can't wait to hear an update on your eggs.

Red, I'm glad your EE roo was safe from the dog. How do so many keep getting into the yard? I'm shocked at the number of dogs on the loose there are in your area. Congrats on the BO that is your new baby!

Lisa, hope your concert was awesome.

My FBCM rooster is starting to get frisky. He keeps trying to mate with the other pullets, but they're all way too young to be laying so it's so not appropriate! I've never seen a rooster try to mate with an underage chicken before, but I'll admit my experience is rather limited. I've moved him to the big girls pen, where 4 out of the 7 are laying. It was bedtime, and he was trying desperately to get back to "his" pen, but I stuck him in the henhouse. I'm interested to see how tomorrow goes.

red that buff just won the lotto getting a home with you! from the picture she does not look that old to me, she sure did not look red at all in the face. if nothing else she can be a broody for you :)

Red - It sounds like we all need to get together for an old fashioned fence raising party and a BBQ. We can bring our DH's and watch them work. Just kidding, we can help too by cheering them on. I think that with enough of us there we can whip a fence out in no time and get to know each other better. Nothing builds friendships like working together and eating good food.

Aww Happy, you're awesome.

Sphinx, how old is your FBCM roo? I was worried about my EE hurting the BO pullet, but it turns out that everything is fine, since she's Ms. Attitude. He can't get to within a few feet of her without her giving him "the stare". I've seen her chasing him, too. No worries there

Thanks birdman! I'm excited she's staying with us. She is such a sweet, sweet girl. And so poofy, yay!

Oh, and I figured out that the mystery egg I found was indeed one of my Marans's eggs. That was a mean trick, girlie. Disguising your eggs like that.

4 black babies. They are ones that should now lay the olive egg..found that out from the gal I won them from. She had a Maran roo with EE's.
Now, about that Maran egg. I am soooo mad at myself. I had a feeling last night, since the eggs were pipping, that I should go ahead and pip that one. Sure enough, when I decided too this morning..I was barely too late. That baby had absorbed all it's yolk, perfectly formed. It had internally pipped, then that was that. Barely gone. I could tell. I'm still just...oooh, I knew, even in the middle of the night as I was taking babies out, that maybe I should open it, but thought I would wait till morning. Oh man. :(
These black babies, are active little critteres. Puffy cheeks and all. Will be very pretty, and should lay an olive egg like I said. I think I have the one I want picked out..looks to be girly already. Will wait a few days to watch.
Now if gamebirds will just sell me some of those green eggs, I should be set by spring in getting my green egg!

Oh yeah, you want to know something truly sad? The owners of those two Malimutes that ate one of our turkeys aren't going to claim them from the pound. I guess they don't want to pay for rabies vacc's, so they're just leaving them there. And it seems that I've heard somewhere, it takes a pretty hungry dog to eat a bird it's killed. Some people should not be allowed to have animals

Cynthia, so sorry about the Marans baby

I'm working on myself to listen to those gut feelings on stuff like that. I don't like kicking myself in the fanny.

I've got some sad news also. The saddest news I've gotten so far. I'm being forced to get rid of my hens. My landlord doesn't want them. I'm choking up right now. All of my chickens, coops, chicks. All have to go. I'm heartbroken. I have till the end of August. One last month to take as many pictures and make as many memories as I can before I have to sell my pets. I know this sounds crazy but, after so long, my hens are a part of me. As much as I try, I honestly can't imagine myself not coming home from school, and going out to sit with the hens, picking them up and scratching their neck, gathering eggs, holding newly hatched chicks. This hurts me so much. (Yes pretty weird, I know) I just love them so much. I'm posting my whole setup on KSL, I'm praying to God that someone with a good heart will buy them and keep them and not kill them or harm them. I want them to go to a good home. Sorry if I'm interrupting a chat here, but I just had to vent.

Also, I need somebody that is committed to their hens and can buy my 2 hens that have chicks.I don't want them to go to KSL, some of those people are horrible. Maybe someone on BYC can take them in for me?

The Idaho thread is asleep so I'm here for a visit :)

Chiko.....what about keeping a couple of bantam house chickens? They don't make any more noise than a parrot.....even less so! Bantam cochins are especially friendly and don't take up much room. I have a friend who keeps hers in a rabbit hutch. They are very spoiled girls. Just a thought.
