Utah!

Thanks everyone! Do you think a bottle with a sport top lid would work for puffing DE where it needs to go? I'm excited to buy some and get the flies more under control. My chickens are silly, I had shavings in all of the nest boxes but they kicked it all out on one side. I need to go back and try to put some more in.

Cynthia the exchequer does have a sweet little voice and she is keeping mostly to herself. She's been staying in the coop while the others are in the run but I haven't seen any major picking going on. She was on the roost with 4 of the other established birds last night, snuggled right up. My oldest took some bread out there yesterday and later when we checked there was a piece of bread on the roosting bar, I wonder if she grabbed it and flew up there. LOL

Lay some carpet down, so the eggs won't break when they lay. They always seem to make a nest area..kick the shavings all around until they have this little tunnel going on...and, I think that's a great idea about the bottle with a sport lid..like birdman said, he uses it too.

Ok just went and checked again we got a 3rd egg. Looks the same as the other 2. So im guessing maybe a new layer on the little white one. Will have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Alright Lisa...need to know something..this is funny, but not if it's a roo. It is going to be 100 degree outside today, and up in the 90's all week, so I put my babies outside in that area that Scott just made at the end of the coop. The little black EE's that I have left were scared,,but not that Polish! The older Red Sex link..still little but older, came up, the stink eye went on, the red pecked just a little at the polish's beak, and by golly, that Polish stood up on those little stick legs and pecked right back! And it wasn't a little peck. I had to laugh, but had to wonder, boy? Or do all Polish have this attitude. I was planning on putting them in with my Silkies when they got older.
I went in for a while, Then went out to see how they were doing. The EE's were back in a corner, and the Polish was standing right there, still trading stink eye with the others. I also have an older black EE pullet in there, and a little splash EE baby. I put them all back in the Nursery at night with a light, because it is down into the 60's here at night. I see that the older ones will stay just outside of the light, but I know that these new ones will want to be under it for a few days.
Anyway, I hope I get a sweet Polish or two out of the ones I'm getting. I don't think this one is going to be a sweetheart. Little stink, funny now, but not sure about the future. If it is a boy, understandable attitude. LOL...It's the barred one.

Cynthia--with my two pullets, they have been sweet with the other chickens, they do not fight. BUT they do not put up with a lot of abuse. They will stand their ground. If someone takes a jab at them Frisco puffs up and yells back. Also when I add babies in they have a little anxiety, it takes a day or two to get used to newbies. They run up, inspect, peck (just take a jab) and let the babies know this is their turf. But after the initial day or two, they are quite happy and ignore the newbies like they have been there all along. They both are sweet overall, but change takes them a day or two to get used to. They are a bit more skittish too when they are little, but as they get older they warm up to the humans quite a bit, especially when introduced to the big girls, all of a sudden I am their best friend because I am not as near as scary as those hens lol My little Cosmo is just now starting to run up to me when she sees me. She used to run the other way. I think they are a little jumpy too because of their limited vision. Sometimes I go in the run, pass out bread and all of a sudden Frisco sees my foot when I am one or two feet away from her and she jumps like she had no idea I was there haha! I did not notice a lot of difference in behaviour between the boys and girls as chicks. But Sasha said the first roo she had from me, Rocco was quite aggressive as he got older. I only had him for 6 weeks or so.

I did not notice mine being quite as brave as yours when they were little, they tend more to run and hide, so I don't know if that might mean yours is male...that one does have the bigger crest/vaulted head, that is supposed to be a good sign for female, but I have had bad luck with crest sexing my chicks. The baby boys have seemed to be noisier than the females.

Also, I have my polish with the showgirl, she definitely is the more dominant one. Still do not know the sex on that one though. She can be pretty ornery (with littler ones).

Gun? rifle or pistol. I have 2 guns that I use with my concealed carry permit. Both are pink. My hubby says that burgkers will die laughing when I pull my pink gun on them before I have a chance to shoot them

No kidding, you've got a concealed permit? My dad has one, but he's AFNG. My boyfriend has suggested that I get one so I can carry the 9 mm he gave me when I'm alone at work or traveling.

thanks everyone. its my first gun so i am super excited about it, they did not have it but were able to order it. its a mossberg tactical .22 with a red dot scope and 25 rd mag, it has a ar 15 look to it with the rails that give you loads of options for add ons. very good value for the money too. i am into knifes too, i always have at least one on me lol. my favorite is my gerber lmf ll knife. oh and i am a big time collector of zippo lighters, always have one on me, i have some i use and others i would never dare to use because they are worth so much.

Mossberg! Nice, those are good

Had a buddy that has an SKS, and I have fun researching which type he had, based on the features. Turns out his was Yugoslavian, I believe. It was the kind you could attach a flamethrower to. And Gerber makes a good knife. I bought one for myself two years ago and then accidentally blooded myself on it two minutes after I walked out of the store. That is a sign of a good knife, I tell you. Someone's gonna get cut when it's first opened

Happened with a Sog I got last year, too!

No worries here, Red! A country girl should always carry a knife, IMO! Growing up trail riding with thousands of acres at my disposal, I always carried a pocket knife. Still to this day, I do. I keep a 3.5" blade in my car, and sometimes it ends up in my purse....I got kicked out of social security last week where they check you at the door and x-ray your bags. Oops.
(I just had to take it out to the car and leave it.)

Oh Sasha, I'm glad you're on my team! My uncle got me into the habit of carrying a pocket knife some years back, and now I feel awkward if I go anywhere without one. Funny about your x-ray thing. I've packed knives onto the college campus before because I forgot to take them off after work, but never got caught. I accessorize knives like some other women accessorize purses and shoes

Better go read the rest of the posts, now! I got too excited about commenting on these.

Wow, note to self, and other large egg enthusiasts, hehe, my White Rock just laid her first egg, and her starting egg is so much bigger than the others, even the GSL. It was not a double either. Hope they stay nice like that! It is nearly a L size already. Pretty shiny light tan, about the same color as the Australorps. Somebody on the Idaho thread had said awhile back that was the one to get for big tan eggs AND the mellow temperament of the BR, Will see how she does, maybe one more of those next spring. So far so good! I really like her she is so white and fluffy, so the nice eggs were the icing on the cake. She just went to the top of the keep list, will see if she stays there haha she is probably the quietest low key girl out there.

Red, remind me not to sneak up on you.. or Sasha....OR sundance... :D

Lisa, don't worry

Most of my knives are little. The two "big" ones I have get laughed at by guys all the time. I mostly used them for opening boxes or cutting baling twine or that. However, I'm proud to say that mine are some of the sharpest you'll ever find. Oh yeah!

So, did I mention this before? The little male turkey is super chatty now that he has a turkey friend around. And both of the turkeys follow me around, particularly the little one. She follows me everywhere, and when I sit down, she orbits me and watches what I'm doing.

Edit: Just noticed that I'm re-using a bunch of the same words. Sorry. My brain is so fried lately

the turkeys are on sale at cal ranch just so you know.... yeah i get looks from people when they see my knifes, for a while i wore my gerber on my hip, it scared people lol. oh did i ever tell you all about the time i took the tip of my finger off? i was being stupid and was useing a knife as a pry bar on a sprinkler, well it slipped and took the tip of my finger off, well i do not drive, no one was home, my mom was with my sister and i did not want them to change their plans because last time i had a major medical issue i had to do that (my heart acted up and i was out for over an hour in the shower so my sister got mad at me and is still mad over it lol) so i told them i would be okay until they got home, took duck tape and towels to help with the bleeding and by the time they got home 3 hours later i was in shock, yeah it freaked the doctors out for sure lol. i lost a lot of blood with that one. hey i never said i was smart lol

Oh sure! Just when I'm done buying turkeys..........

Um, Brad? I'd have been a little upset, too! Goodness, you'd better be safe. You can't be taken down by a lowly sprinkler head, lol! Although I must admit, I've used my knives for unwise purposes before, too. Screwdrivers..........
