Utah!

Sphinx, if you lose a bunch of your girls because of this sickness (if it is sickness) I will give you some of my girls, okay? It's mighty discouraging to keep losing birds, especially when you aren't certain of the cause.

Cynthia, I forgot to say - how exciting for you guys! Have fun!

Sphinx, glad you are able to do that...it will be interesting to see what the heck is going on. Hoping and crossies its not marek's.! Too bad you lost another bird, dang it!

Red, how cool is that to just find a turkey>? And be your relative and know where to send it. Perfect! haha! You will have to show us a pic.. Loved the peaches picture :)

Sphinx, so sorry! That was fast. It will be good to know for sure!

Had a great day today. Had a late lunch after. Sphinx, went to the Provo Temple. :)

Those peaches look great! I love peaches! I really want a peach tree.
Our apples are pretty much ready for picking on one of our trees. Time goes by fast..peaches, apples, pears now. I have one little pitiful pear tree, but the pears taste just great. All of the chickens are eating the apples, and soon will be eating the pears I'm sure.

Sooo hot today. I wet my girls down when I got home. They still..all laid an egg for me.

I meant to post this earlier,i nmy other post and forgot, happens alot lately!

At petsmart we buy the mite/lice bird spray for our parakeets, in the parakeet section, it is cheaper than the poultry spray. (Pyrethrins) not sure how that is spelled....anyway we spray the cage down when we clean the parakeets out, and in the nooks and crannies of the coop in the every-so-often-scrub-down.....I am sure you could spray it right on your chickens, under their wings and around their vents if you really needed to. It would not be as safe as the oil I am sure, but it is an option if anybody wanted to go that route. On parakeets it says you can spray it right on the birds, just to avoid the food and water.....and it says it is for "all birds".....but this stuff is lots cheaper. We have used it on our parakeets for years and never had a problem. Of course, we are not eating eggs from them either, so I guess it is something you have to think about....I have not used it directly on my chickens yet, but if I had bug problems I think I would use it on them if I needed to. It goes a long way, one bottle would easily spray down 20 or so chickens, and it is just a couple bucks.

Cynthia, good girls giving you eggs! I got 9 from 11 layers today (not including the mystery layer)....two are holding out on me :)

I still have a mystery layer I cannot figure out who it is. Only had three eggs from her, she is sneaky! I am determined to catch her. She is laying in the back coop, the one without the camera of course.

i have a broody ee right now, she is the one with bad feet. i would get her some eggs but with moving them over to the new coop soon i do not think its a good idea. she would make such a great mom too :( but anyway sorry for all the loss any of you have had, and congrats on any good things. have been super busy so have not had the time i would like to post on here.

The folks at the extension were really nice. I gave them the background on the things that have been happening with my chickens (the miraculous recovery of the polish, the three week decline of the lavender, and the really fast demise of the partridge). The vet said she'd do a full necropsy, but she seemed doubtful when I brought up mareks. She indicated that her suspicion was that it was just three odd coincidences, and unrelated. She said they'd start on her tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get answers soon.

Red, thanks so much for your sweet offer. If this does turn out to be mareks, I'm going to want to really take some biosecurity measures, and will probably go chicken free for a while so that I can truly disinfect everything. I won't cull any healthy birds, but instead have a chicken leper colony. I'm really hoping I have answers before my five chicks hatch on Saturday.

Cynthia, glad you had such a nice day with your son.

Lisa, it's too bad you're not a lady of leisure and go hang around your coop til you catch your culprit!

At this point, I think I have 3 layers- the GLW, RIR and my lav. I suspect my BLRW is STILL a deadbeat. I get three eggs most days. My cream legbar is getting red, so hopefully she'll lay soon. I think my olive egger, other lav am, and speckled sussex will come on in about 4-6 weeks.

There you are. Sounds like that coop is coming along? Is that what you have been doing..nosey me! Too bad you can't let your broody girl have some eggs. I haven't had a broody EE, ever..knocking on wood..I prefer the small girls going broody..I want my eggs from my bigger girls.

You know...we will want pictures of the new coop. :)

Hey birdman, glad you're okay. Try not to stress too much, k? If your EE stays broody after the move, I can still see about getting some fertile eggs for you. No guarantees, but I can try.

Wow Sphinx that is just horrible. I'm sorry you are going through all of that. I kinda agree with the vet it all sounds to unrelated. I'm anxious to hear what they say as I'm sure you are.

Cynthia what a great day for you. You are going to be like me this fall with no children at home. I think I'll have to add more chickens or get another dog. :) it will be to quiet around here. It is great to see our children start their journey into their grown up lives though. Did you put your eggs into lockdown?

You guys and all your egg laying hens!!! I'm still getting only one measely egg every other day BUT my little Cochin was in checking the nesting box. Wahoo! Now if my Silkies would pick up laying again I'd be a happy camper.

Red it doesn't look like I will need to bring you a turkey from bird guy :D

Bird man how is your new coop coming together? They are always a ton of work but so nice to have once they are done. Are you adding a run too?
