The folks at the extension were really nice. I gave them the background on the things that have been happening with my chickens (the miraculous recovery of the polish, the three week decline of the lavender, and the really fast demise of the partridge). The vet said she'd do a full necropsy, but she seemed doubtful when I brought up mareks. She indicated that her suspicion was that it was just three odd coincidences, and unrelated. She said they'd start on her tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get answers soon.
Red, thanks so much for your sweet offer. If this does turn out to be mareks, I'm going to want to really take some biosecurity measures, and will probably go chicken free for a while so that I can truly disinfect everything. I won't cull any healthy birds, but instead have a chicken leper colony. I'm really hoping I have answers before my five chicks hatch on Saturday.
Cynthia, glad you had such a nice day with your son.
Lisa, it's too bad you're not a lady of leisure and go hang around your coop til you catch your culprit!
At this point, I think I have 3 layers- the GLW, RIR and my lav. I suspect my BLRW is STILL a deadbeat. I get three eggs most days. My cream legbar is getting red, so hopefully she'll lay soon. I think my olive egger, other lav am, and speckled sussex will come on in about 4-6 weeks.
