Utah!

Oh my goodness! That is huge. I can see the chickens in the rafters now. Are you going to use some of that higher space..for storage? You will love being able to walk into your coop. That little pink one..ha, I remember the pink paint on one of your chicks. :) It is cute, you should be able to sell it pretty quick. Thanks for the pictures..keep posting as it comes along. What color are you thinking for the big one?

I am thinking I am going to paint it lilac with a lime green and pink trim. The loft area will be used for storage. I also want to be able to keep all the feed and supplies in the coop as well. We are going to wire it for electricity so it can be heated in the winter. I am also keeping another smaller coop. It will be for the smaller chickens and younger ones. We are going to heat it as well

Thank you for the compliments on my flock. I think I am going to stick with the theory that Lacy is a BSL...she was a very dark chipmunk color as a chick. I bought her at IFA, they didn't have wellies, but they did have bsl's and I did see a number of escapees while I was there. I can see her getting mixed up.

Brad, wow! That seems too good to be true. Thank you. I wonder how far he's looking to travel?

And the sunflowers I got from you are starting to bloom

Yaaaaay. Little bit of sunshine in my garden.

Sundance, Cluckingham.........I love it! Everyone has such good names for their coops on here. La Casa de Pollo. Fort Knox. Cluckingham Palace. The best I can come up with for mine is "the crappy penitentiary".

Dang.

Lilwanis, I'm really digging the pictures of your flock! Lacey doesn't even look close to a GLW, does she? She's very pretty, though. I have seen a similar coloration to that, and now I can't think what. EE is one of the ones I'm thinking. Wonder if she's an unintended crossbreed? That's what happened with one of the BR chicks Lisa got (that I now have) She is half BR, half Dominique, to the best of my knowledge. And, side note here - I love the chick in your avatar. "Peep!"

Sphinx, any improvement in your calf?

I caught Chuck Norris (the Leghorn/EE) scaling our peach trees today to get over the fence. I think I'm going to be clipping a bunch of wings in the near future. Does anyone know how to clip the feathers so that they eventually grow back in? I want to get these guys to a larger area at some point where they can roam, but right now I don't want them irritating neighbors.

Good night, everyone. Sleep tight.

well he would be getting some money out of it too, such as if he found a coyote the dwr would give him $50 for killing it and if its a coon the hide is worth money. glad the sunflowers are blooming! some of mine are 8 feet tall now, so that is a lot of blooms. sex links are a cross of two breeds as you may know, such as a bsl is a mix of a rir and br, i am not sure she is a full sex link but she does look very bsl like only she is brown, it may be her genetics down the line have not been the purest and being a hatchery bird that is not a shock. but ether way she sure is beautiful lilwanis!

Ha! I just clipped my EE mix's wings today! It was getting on top of the nursery hutch! Must have some leghorn in it! lol
Sundance, I have to see a picture of that when it's painted! How fun. You have fun with color, that explains why you like the different chickens. Variety, and different. I'm the same way. :)

Aravis, there is no way you will regret it haha, we are all laughing together thinking how you are going to go crazy and want more chicks and you will be hiding chickens in your closet and garage just like the rest of us in no time at all. That is called "chicken math", the law says 5 hens, so therefore chicks and pullets don't count until they are a year old right? So 6 babies in your living room brooder, 12 teens in the garage brooder, 6 pullets out in your coop and 5 laying hens = "5 hens" :lau
Save this post, you will look at it in a year and know exactly what I am talking about. :p and have a good laugh!

Sooooooo true!!!!! I have four 1 week old in my kids bathroom
7 out in the garage brooder!!! Can't wait for my 5 baby silkies and 2blue splash marans come this Tuesday!!!!! And my coop will be done by wed I will for sure post pics!!!!

So as far as getting babies or older......for me I have found that the babies that we are easing love us sooooo much more than the ones I got when they were 4 weeks or older. I love love love my two austrelops!!!! They will be three weeks tomorrow!!! They are soooo sweet! They just jump on my hands and fall asleep on me sooooo cute!!!!!
I have a almost three year old son who handles them pretty good and they still love us:)

K so seasoned chicken moms I need to start to mingle the older ones with my three week old ones. So they are in my brooder with the older ones on one side and the three week olds are on the other and they can see each other and all.
Do I still need to keep the younger ones away at first when we put them in our new coop?
All the help I can get would be awesome!!!

I just can't wait for my babie silkies!!!!

Sundance, that coop will be great! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Urbanchickenmom, I hope you post pics of your new babies.

I think at some point in the future, I'm going to have to get a silkie. Or a frizzle. Or both.

Lilwanis, great flock! Sundance, great coop! Love the name :)
Did not get on here yesterday, had sooo much to do. Pics soon I promise!
Sphinx, glad the second dose was uneventful :) and easier for you, did the pink eye start to clear up yet?
Urban, can't wait to see your new babies. utah chickenmom---does that picture apply to humans? Sure seems like it at my house lol
I had meant to answer a few others a page or two back....forgot what it was :p I usually don't get too behind on here, but this time not so much. Homecoming this week, Go Logan! I have so many mom assignments between now and Fri, baking R.Velvet cupcakes, making sugar cookies in the shape of L, H, S....sewing costume accessories, delivering cards, barbies (long story) videoing the parade and the list goes on. Wish me luck, I will need it! My girl has this year left then I will be D-O-N-E! At least til my boy is in high school. But he better not be on the drill team....:/ lol And... If Logan loses after all that work I will be ticked! haha!

Cynthia, I wish I could come pick up my baby! She is going to be all feathered in before I get to hold her. Hoping something will work out for a ride to somewhere north of you. Thanks for holding on to her for me, I really appreciate it!
