Utah!

Awww UrbanCM, that's awful. I'm sorry

You did the best you could. Sometimes it just happens, sadly.

Whittni, that's a difficult decision. Don't feel pressured about getting more chickens, if that's the case. Especially if you can't afford to care for them all. That is hard.

Cynthia, your babies are cute, and I do love the purple egg carton with your eggs.

Kimmy, hmmm......how red is the Exchequer? On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being RED and 1 being super pale, I think my Exchequer is at least a 3 now.

I"m so sorry that little one didn't make it, UrbanCM. :(

X's 2!

Well, it's hitting me pretty good tonight. Oh man!

Those Exchequers should be close to laying, or laying by now. I have a couple of birds that stay to themselves. It's the leghorns' way most of the time. Except for my Miss Piggy. She stays with the other laying hens.

Aww Cynthia, hope it does not last long! Rest! Fluids!!

Sorry about the little silkie Urban! It is awful to watch them go like that and have no way to help the little things out. Sounds like you have lots of blues in this batch, when you can post pics would love to see them!

A happier note: I found another little Marans egg this morning, This one has speckles!

Still little, but cute!

Oh, Lisa. That is so beautiful. I've been watching my marans. She was hatched the second week of April, so 23+ weeks. She looks sooooo ready to lay. Nothing yet though. She's scrunched a little funny in this picture, so you can see how gorgeous her body shape is, but look how red the comb is!

Cynthia, I'm sorry you feel sick. I hope you feel better soon. Take it easy so your body can kick it faster. I've had this weird sore throat thing going on. I am not sure if it's an oncoming cold, strep, or just allergies. It's been several days, and it seems like illness usually develops more, so maybe just allergies.

So SAD:( after I posted this I called my pet chicken and talked to them and they said go give her some sugar water in a dropper and see if that helps.......I open the door and she was lying on the floor:( my heart was soooo sad. She didn't make it! She was sooooo beautiful!!! I did get her cute little vet cleared and put mineral oil on her bum but I just think she was not strong enough.
I am sad but I still have two white silkies one black and one blue but it is more light grey. I'll post some pics of them they are sooooo stinken cute!
Thanks everyone for being soooo sweet! I am soooo excited about my silkies!!!
I also got a blue Orpington a blue amerucana a blue splash Marans so I got some really pretty ones just sad about my little baby blue:(

I have quite a few sizzles that will be hatching next week if you want one to replace her.

Sphinx, those Marans have such a nice shape, don't they? I hope she lays for you soon! And on the sore throat thing - I've had a dryer throat the last several days, with a lot of gunk in my windpipe in the mornings. I think it's from all the air pollution. Ee-yuck!

Ditto on the pollution, Red-- the smoke has been dreadul!
Sphinx, love your bird, she is so fluffy. It is funny on the Marans, the one I got at Chickenstock has black eyes, kind of an Australorp looking face (rounder) ...on a Marans Body. Then the ones I have gotten from qcu all have light bright green eyes, and longer face like yours and they are all identical, I cannot tell them apart at all! Fun to see the different birds from different breeders. I am thinking that the one I got at Chickenstock is some sort of mix, it just looks a bit different than mose Marans I have seen (so far!) And they were from a hatchery, Cackle maybe? My Chickenstock gal is the one laying, and she was born the last week in April. None of my qcu marans have started yet. Can't wait! Should be another month for the oldest one to start, then probably Halloween ish for the younger ones. Blujems and Daloorashens have some too, it will be fun to see all these dark eggs coming our way! Yours should be laying pretty soon Sphinx! You got yours from Suzie right? Very very pretty girl :) I have heard she has nice birds from so many people, but have not been there yet. Sounds like a really fun place, I should probably avoid going there until I get my chicken population under control haha! :p
